What's The Fastest Speed You Have Been

Had my 73 up to 105 just to see if would go over 100.

2.76 gear felt like it was still winding out and the 318 felt fine and like it had more to give.

I had a 73 Roadrunner with a 650 HP 440 on the track at Daytona in the early 1980s that was going fast enough that my front wheels left the ground and my wheels were windmilling. I slowed coming into turn two and felt the wheels grab and it scared the crap out of me. I made it back to the grandstand exit doing about 20 MPH. I saw my friends jumping up and down and waiving their arms at me, but I thought they were cheering me on not trying to tell me I was about to go airborne. :)

Wow Bruzilla, I have a story very similar to yours but different setting. My dad got me a 73 340 roadrunner (Manual Steering) for my first car and we got it running great the day before my birthday. When I say we got it running, I mean the suspension was still 25 years old at the time and had plenty of slop but the engine was great. So on the day I turned 16, my best friend and I decided to see how fast it would go. I literally floored it for about 2 miles from a 40 mph roll and it was pegged at 150. Not sure how accurate it was as it was bouncing at certain time but I am confident I was there considering the length of time the pedal was floored. Anyways, the terrain was pretty flat but I was going up a slight hill and when I crested it (2 lane road mind you), the car did not come back down and I felt my already sloppy steering wheel go free. Thankfully I knew better than to press on the brakes so I just let off the gas and felt it come back down but got squirrely when the suspension came down. Sorry for the story, yours just seemed so similar to mine. Anytime I think about speeding now I remember that day. Man, was 16 year old me stupid!

73 Roadrunner 150 Mph est
02 Mustang GT (SC) 160+ MPH
Kawi 600 150-155 MPH

About 125 in my Chrysler X FIRE....could have done more BUT no where to do it,This was my life saving grace.

:steering:

227 in a T/A dragster 1/4 mile, Sears Point
licensing pass, but never got to drive it again

202 in my Top Sportsman 92 Trans Am 1/4 mile Sac Raceway Gov. Cup

193 in my 23 T Blown FI Altered 1/4 mile Sears Point & Fremont Raceway Northern Nats

188 in my 49 Ford Pro-Gas 1/4 mile Sears Point & Fremont Raceway

156 in my old Silver 68 RR 1/4 mile Sac Raceway TnT

Been 140's+ in many of my other numerous Brand X racecars...

135-ish in my 68 Charger R/T on hwy 50, way back in 1975-76
going from Placerville back down towards Shingle Springs,
racing a friend with a 68 Torino GT 390, with 3 others in the car,
back to the HS after a basket ball game at our rival HS...
Yes I was a dumbass...

I got clocked at 120+ when I 1st got my 68 Charger too,
by my dads friend & local El Dorado co. area CHP, just after I got my license,
that didn't go over well...

Went just right at 90 mph on my modified 350cc Banshee Quad,
that was a hell ride...

Now I pretty much do the speed limit or a tad over...
Save the speed for the track...

Riding shotgun in big brothers e type jag, we were clocked at 138 by Illinois state patrol. He only survived that one only due to returning to Viet Nam in 3 more days. Believe that was spring 1971.
On a bike, i hit 123 something at the old SLIR, now Gateway, in Madison, Il. Speed is an illusion, especially on a bike. After 100 or so, you can't feel much of the increased speed. Time slips are more accurate than our senses, or memories.

I was thinking of you when I started this thread, not because you're a dumbass, lol but I knew you have had quite a few race cars that were capable of some great speeds.
Nice resume Buds!

Thanks,
I've had some pretty fast cars, I was addicted to speed early on,
that 227mph rear engine 225" wb dragster pass, was fun, but wasn't my car...
BUT to be honest the 23 altered 193 felt faster even @ 30+ mph slower,
Engine in front & exposed, sitting over the rear axle, FC type chassis 120" wheel base....
I don't know if I'll ever get that type of opportunity or
spend that kind of $$$ again thou...

We'll see...

fastest i've been on land was aboard the TGV train from France to Germany (200 mph). other than that, probably my Yamaha 650 Seca Turbo (126ish). don't dare take my RR to it's limits.

fast, just the normal pin the speedo 120 MPH .. but what we did as teenagers was the "3x club".... if you could go 3 X's the speed limit .. I'll tell you 90 down a city street at 4 in the morning was a rush ....... and supremely stupid :realcrazy: ...........man I'd love to be stupid again.

Around 140 twice. Once in my 70 Superbird back in the 80s and again in my 70 Charger a few years later. Seized the Charger and had a 4 hour walk back home. Before cell phones of coarse.

Nice try mr police man. LOL
I do 5 miles over the speed limit every day. FASTEST I ever go. :p

I had my cousins CBR950 to 160mph. That was scary fast.
Fastest I've had a car was my scion tc 115mph

One forty in a year old seventy one Cuda. One eighty as a passenger in a new ninety six Caprice. Note, It was after midnight, I was nodding when I realized we were on the e-way with a crazy driver. LOL!

about 20 years ago 140 in my 67 charger 2:30 in the morning on route 30 it had a 440 and a 727 I liked that car should have kept it

Somewhere between 125-130 mph on both my 1977 Kawasaki KZ1000 and my 1983 Moto Guzzi LeMans III.

107 mph in the 1/4 in my '72 Challenger with over 100,000 miles on a stock worn out front end.

I feel much safer going over 100 mph on old motorcycles than old musclecars.

I went 212mph in a roadster a Bonneville.

Still hold the G/BFR record at 210.881.

When we got the scowl dialed in she is an animal with the gearing, scary thing is that it was still pulling hard.
Then I had a slightly modified ZX9R an ran 195 mph. Just love speed. My dream would to ride in a fighter jet. THE ULTIMATE ride.

I'd recommend a helicopter ride down in the weeds before a fighter. Isn't there a helo guy in here? In the jet you don't have much frame of reference, and though you're going the speed of heat, you really don't notice it after initial acceleration (takeoff). In a helo you see the trees whipping by and you can let it all hang out... Plus you can listen to Creedence at the same time and feel that all is right with the world. Then again, cloud surfing can be fun.

A dream of mine was to get to go up in a fighter when I was in the AF but that never happened. Only kind of planes I rode in were charter flying buses to Germany and then home. I did get to ride in the cockpit going over (night flight) when I asked if I could because of all the 'cattle' that was running up and down the isle and raising hell. Actually dozed off in a jump seat but man, it was nice and quiet and I never saw stars so bright as that night! My last flight was in a 1938 Stearman but that's been awhile. Had to cut my hair after that one lol.
