I put a lot of thought into whether I would flatten the firewall or leave it. After weighing all of the pro's and cons' I have decided to cut and paste. This is a template I am working on. I have it so that the new sheet will mate up exactly like the original firewall where it is spot welded to the inner fenders at the back. I am also going to weld in a filler plate in the upper center so that the curved lip will carry all of the way across. Wiper motor and M/C will be under the dash. All wiring and hoses will be hidden in various creative ways. Next purchase will be a bead roller. The Audi dash fits in such a way that there is a ton of room under there for everything and then some. Anyway, the remaining thing to work out is what pattern to roll beads on it. Or not. I'll punch through only in areas where I have to, like steering and go pedal.Finished the cabinet and figured out the exhaust and media in/out issues. Still need to rig up a grate inside and cut a sheet of steel for the floor in there so sand is easier to reclaim.
