Help disk brake options

Hi all
I've almost got my front end together and it's time for disk brake swap. I've talked to Cass and I'm looking at around 800 for what I need (11.75, slotted, plus master, dist. Valve etc.).
My question is, if I went with the magnum force 2" dropped spindles can I just piecemeal the rest of the parts from summit? 78 cordoba disks, calipers, etc. Has anyone done this cheaper than just buying a ready to go kit? I searched the disco tech article but it won't come up. I appreciate the help.

I did a drum to disc conversion in 2001 $560 ish. Mostly new parts, used spindles and caliper adapters. It was the conversion in Mopar Action mag. 11.75 rotors and slider calipers. Sent a picture to a mopar junk yard with a picture of the caliper adapters for both sized sliders and marked pictures so I didn't get wrong ones for smaller rotors. They cost me $90 then. On ebay when you see them $200. I'd do like I did send pic's to a junk yard. I don't know if I can find the article. If your interest

ed I'd look. There are another type of Caliper adapter that are more common I'm not up to speed what they came from. There are a ton of threads about this you should search for drum to disc in the search box.

I used the Scarebird front disc adapter plates on my Charger. You'll have to shop around and buy the parts for the kit yourself, but it's pretty straight forward. The kit calls for rotors from a 70 Ford, calipers from a late model Dodge 1/2 ton truck, hoses from a Camaro, and a master cylinder from a '72 Cuda. They'll send you a list of parts and install instructions if you're interested, or I could post them here if you want. Most everything can be bought at your local parts store which was one of the reasons I enjoy having this conversion. The only thing I had to buy online was the brake hoses because I wanted braided stainless. Overall, I'm happy with the results and the Charger has plenty of stopping power. Good Luck!

Here is a quick rundown of the major items I pieced together for my disc swap:

Rotors: $86 (Summit)
Calipers: $42
Bearings: $25
Master Cylinder $26
Hoses: $42 (eBay)

The only thing left to buy are brake pads and you can spend anywhere from $20 for OEM replacements up to hundreds of dollars for extreme duty pads. So, realistically you're looking at around $500 after you factor in taxes, shipping, and a couple core costs if you don't have anything to turn in. Overall the kit was very easy to install and I'm happy with the performance too.

Looks like a nice alterative. You still have to buy a bunch of parts. If you have a friendly parts source all the better. I think you'll need to budget another $400 to $500 for the other parts. Maybe ChargerM440 can give you an idea what it costs. My concern about some complete kits is replacement parts. Do you have to go back to them and are they in business. If you race I'd go with the higher quality mfg's.

One thing Greenmachine said he bought 2" dropped spindles for disc's will those scarebird caliper adapters work on the dropped spindles.

Edit: Also, you can usually find a 5-10% off discount coupon online for a lot of parts stores. Not a huge deal, but enough to negate the taxes.

I appreciate all the responses. Yea, I think I will just piece together a kit coupled with 2" dropped spindles (based on 73 and up mopars), 78 cordoba 11.75 rotors and the matching calipers, bearings, etc. with 440.00 cost of the spindles I will probly be 1000. All in.

Mopar Action website is gone as far as I can tell. I'm glad I printed the Disco-Tech article years ago. I have this setup on my 65 Belvedere, works fine with the stock 10" rear drums.

These are the two caliper adapters. I bought my adapters

from a junkyard in I think in Minnesota. I sent this picture to them with the one I wanted circled. 10 days later got them. Forgot I have a disc with Mopar Action Tech articles. These are the one part I think you need pictures for part numbers won't do.
