Hi you all I removed all the Bondo out of my rain gutters today because it was all cracked and breaking away and it was a lot of rust underneath can I go ahead and seal it with por-15 and then reapply the Bondo over that, will that work okay or do I have to apply the bondo over bear metal what is the consensus. Thanks to all that reply

It's not Bondo.
And there is much debate about putting polyester resin fillers over bare metal anyway.....
I'm not really sure what the factory used.
But yea, it get's old and shrinks.
But here's what I would recommend.
Clean as much rust a you can.
I like Rustoleum Rusty Metal primer if there is any rust on something.
I've had good luck with that over many years.
I know other people like chemical products.
But I can get the Rusty Metal primer at Lowes/Depot.
I like to use a solvent based body sealer as opposed to a water based caulking.
I'm guessing 3M makes something.
Again other people may have suggestions for some sure enough real automotive caulking.
That's good.
I again go to Lowes/Depot and get polyurethane caulking in a tube.
It' cleans with mineral spirits.
Be sure you want it. You will never get it out without grinding or a wire wheel.
It's tough stuff. Like rubber.

Grind all the rust out you can , apply "Rustmort" or other rust "converter" purchased at auto body supply, when dry, prime over with epoxy primer, once the epoxy primer is dry, sand with 120 grit, if there is any pitting, that can be taken care of with a skim coat of Evercoat catalyzed glaze, once dry sand with 120,reprime with epoxy, let dry for 2 hours. apply a self leveling flexible sealer like 3M 08305. your drip rail is a flexible area like your sail panels. If there is no pitting in the metal, just prime & apply drip rail sealer.

Well it seems that if the the group real sealer is self-leveling it would cover up any pits in the middle so the pits would have to be removed for that a trip real soon will cover that up anyway now here's a picture of what I was going to use to paint over the Rusted area what do you think of this

When it's not possible to cut out rust and replace, there are 3 options. They sell small spot sandblast guns that come with different tips. The rubber tip is held tight against the rust spot & the sand is blown back & recycled, so there is Very little mess at all. Rust converter actually changes the composition of the rust to a paintable light primer,( you still need to re prime with a good epoxy primer. while the Rust encapsulator is basically cutting off oxygen to the rust. Personal prefrence how you go about it. I can only guess as to if the sealer will fill in pitting (how severe).Hope this helps
