If anyone has read or follows any of my postings you will now that I've usually got many irons in the fire when it come to working on my car. Steering gear, speedometer, timing, tranny lines, etc...

Well, this weekend saw my power steering pump reinstalled, the speedo housing gasket replaced, and the paint buffed and waxed. Some nice progress. Of course, it was promptly followed up with a cracked exhaust pipe just past the collector, followed by what felt like a huge reduction in performance like maybe two cylinders missing but very shaky idle and dogged driving. Not sure if those two are related... Is that a possibility? I literally just replaced coil, wires, cap, rotor, and plugs and it was running better than ever now it feels like there is a big miss....AND THEN today the high pressure P/S hose failed at a union and spewed fluid all over the headers, smoking out and spilling all over the parking garage at my brand new job at a luxury high rise in downtown Boston... One step forward, two steps back....this car is killin me!

Think simple first.

1)Check for a vacuum hose that might have come off.
2) Inspect plug wires for making contact with a header pipe.
3)Pull plugs and look for the wet, dark or fouled ones.
4)Remove distributor cap and look for a carbon track. That's a charcoal looking line that goes from one terminal to another.

I feel your pain. Been going through the same thing myself. On the plus side, I know when I actually have an issue fixed because that's when another crisis hits. :)

When I'm not driving my Roadrunners, I've been driving Ford Police Interceptors, and one of the things that used to be a huge problem with those was plug wires. Ever since production moved to Mexico, plug wire quality has been abysmal. I would replace the wires, the car would run great for a week or so, then it would be missing like crazy. I would check everything, things would seem fine, but still missing. Then I would replace the wires again and everything would be fine again... for about a week.

I finally got a set of Autolite wires. They were three times as expensive as the other sets, but I never had another miss issue after that, so I would suspect you've got some wires that have failed.

Listen to Kyrslerkid on this one. I bet you have two un-related issues. I've had new spark plug wires "back off" from the plugs MANY times on my Mopar. Happens when I put on new wires & for the next few weeks, if I get a miss, the first thing I do is re-seat the wires on the plugs.

Now your pipe splitting sounds like it's either A) really old B) maybe was hot & got splashed with puddle water causing a crack or C) isn't bent just right so it was "stressed" when installed and that finally fatigued the metal.

I recently bought MSD wires about 2 weeks ago, I would be surprised as hell to discover they were failing I plugged and unplugged them all to see if it affected the motor and every one I unplugged changed the sound

Yeah when I miss, I take em all off to see which one doesn't affect how the motor runs. They all made a difference when I took em off so that really confused me

Oh! and the pipe split because of: A- Very old. lol ! The question is whether that will feel like a bad miss

I have had Moroso Wires,Accell,MSD and the like.BEST wires I have ever had are the FIRECORE 50 wires. They also make distributors.http://www.firecore50.com/ ,tell them HEMI_ITIS sent ya!

Ok so I just put brand new MSD wires in and a new blaster coil. How do I test wires to be certain they are good? ohms on the multimeter? How about the coil? How do I test that?
Yes,the only way to test the wires is with the ohm meter.
And the coil,,,,,,wet your fingers,,,,hold the wire and have someone video you while you hold that wire and put the vid up here.We can then tell you you if the coil it good.

The culprit! A Sparkplug wire that wasn't plugged all the way on! I have long bendy like boots on the wires, it was on there but no clicky! Pushed good and hard and it went click, and I went screeeeee!

Ha great idea! I'll do just that! Just discovered the plug wire wasn't all the way on. I have the long bendy boot style plugs from MSD, it was on there but not clicked on, so that fixed it! Holy crap your blown HEMI is awesome!!!

That "no clicky" thing on plug wires has gotten me more than once
