Car dies while driving

Hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction.
66 Plymouth Belvedere 383 4 speed electronic ignition.
My issue..... while cruising at 60 car will just die with no warning. Pop it in neutral hit the key fires right back up. Over the last two weeks it has done it 5 times at cruising speed and twice while idling. Always starts right away with no issues.
I replaced the fuel filter, checked ground and connections at the coil, Control box and ballast resistor. Coil isn't leaking any oil.
What are some other things to look for? Thanks

I'd try running a temporary wire from the ignition box into the car with a light so you can monitor it. You can move the wire around and narrow it down.
 
Does your car have the bulkhead connector? Gently remove all three banks and spray profusely with contact cleaner and reinstall. Easy on the ears and use a small screwdriver to pry, don't pull.

If what the guys above told you to check is ok....I bet the orange box is your problem.

Just buy another one if your in no rush....I do not know of a way to test it in relation to your problem.
 
Other than thinking Accel is a crappy coil, do you have any suggestions to test and see if it truly is the coil causing the issue?

Spark plug test
Get a spark plug tester and stick it in the coil and other end to a manifold bolt
##only tells you secondary resistance##


Bench test
Use an megohm impedance meter...Check primary and secondary resistance. Primary is the (+) and (-) terminals Secondary is the neg ohm wire to the coil wire area and the pos to the pos on coil..Refer to service manual for ranges

Lastly, just buy a coil to stick on or take one off another car
 
Is this like someone turned off the ignition and threw the keys out the window? Abrupt or stumble? Does any other electric work when this happens like headlights, radio.

I can relate. Was the bulkhead for me. Good luck. When removed, it looked like 40+ years of road grime. No problems since. Over 3 years now. Searched for about 18 months to find it. Mine died on Carson pass, wife other half in car. Not good. I bought a new connector and all related components. I carry them with me. Afraid to touch it as it is not currently broke. The day it died, I left the ignition in the on position. Had an electric fuel pump at the time. Leaned over the drivers side fender and grabbed the bulkhead. With pressure the pump started. An emotional moment. Always use a fender cover too.
