All of that for 77.00 and that tap and die has never been out of the case. It is brand new.Old school Craftsman "Tap & Die" set should be great quality....and it sounds like a fair price...congrats on the score.
Thanks I looked the model number up on the scanner and new was around 3K seen them used on amazon and ebay for around 1500. The tap and die set retails in sears for 155.00 so yes I am pretty stoked with it all. I haven't checked out the scan tool as of yet. Need to read up on it. The buffing polish is about 35.00 a quart and I have 6. When you paint like I do there is always a lot of color sanding and buffing lol.
Solus allows you to access so much more to pinpoint the problems, for example you can pulse each individual injector and check the load range to see if you have a bad injector. You can activate abs system to see if it's functioning properly. You can monitor all systems such as fuel pressure, trans line pressure, anythig you can think of the solus can do it. I have one it makes life much easier working on late model cars.
I agree as I had a set from harbor freight. Twice I broke them off while tapping both times I used the drill that was called for and the tapping lube. I went and bought those sizes in a small craftsman set. Never had that happen again. Coincidence maybe but some tools your just better off going with a better brand.About that Craftsman tap and die set.--I expect that to be a good value based on my experience.
But it does bring to mind a short story.
A guy I worked with at a fab shop (in the early 80s) told me about a great deal he got on a tap and die set much like that one except it was real cheap (by 1/3) of a craftsman set. (made in China)
I asked him to bring it to work for a look see. My first impression was that the taps were not ground to shape. They were stamped into shape.
So I wanted to see how they worked with his permission. I took a new 1/2-13 nut and ran a 1/2-13 tap from the set through it. --I used tapping fluid just in case.
That tap ruined the threads on the new nut. It rounded off the points of the nut thread and rolled up metal even with tapping fluid.
I was amazed as he was at how bad the set was. EEK.
I told him about the -up- side of his set.---There are many sizes you will never use.
You can also run the engine while it is hooked up and see how close to tolerances things are running. Just all around (from what I have read so far) helps pinpoint the things that are giving you issues but not throwing a code.
Autozone code reader= you may need a lot of parts: autozone sells a lot of parts. Diagnostic at a reputable shop: codes point you in the right direction, scan tool provides data for accurate diagnosis= solution to problem.
