im went to install the Pertronix 1 and opened the dist cap and saw this. Is it a stock style electronic ignition? I also went to bypass the ballast for the pertronix cool. Is this fine putting all four wires together?

UPDATE---I made some errors. Now I need to figure out how to fix it.

Put it back to stock and now it won't start. No spark. Since I bypassed the resistor for the pertronix coil and left this other style electronic ignition and tried to start it did it burn out something?

Isn't pertronix to only be used in points distributors? What you have is electronic. I'm pretty sure also that you cannot delete the ballast resistor with the ignitor 1 kit, that's why I went with the ignitor 2 and their 12V coil ...

Also, this electronic ign has power and ground wire going into this. Used a tester and I have no power coming out while attempting to start so it appears that's my spark issue.

Yes, I didn't realize I had an electronic ignition. I should've looked before I started ordering parts.

My petronix instructions said to bypass the resistor with the coil.

Either way I put it back to stock.

Not getting spark.

Should I be getting power from the electronic control unit when ignition is turned on?

You already had an electronic ignition on the car. Why change it - there's no points to adjust. You don't use any of the original electronic apparatus with a Pertronic's system, just the pickup and proper coil. You've probably, maybe, bitched your original electronic ignition box but reinstalling it and trying it is the only way to know. If it produces "no spark" after reinstalling the pick-up module you've probably got the wrong air gap. Use only brass feelers when adjusting the air gap. Does the Pertronix stuff even fit in the distributor properly? It requires the right air-gap as well. As far as the ballast resistor goes, Pertronic's doesn't use it, OE does so if you're trying the OE setup make sure you put the wires back exactly as they came off.

I already said above I made the mistake of not checking my system before ordering parts. And then like an idiot I started working on it replacing the coil without pulling the distributor cap off. I just assumed this was all points. Lesson learned check stuff before I start working on it. I'm thinking I messed up the electronic ignition box.

I guess the question is .... did you take the orange box out of the system before switching to the pertronix or did you leave it hooked up ?

I had a metal one when I first did it. Would that have messed up anything?

Metal feeler gages will introduce magnetism to the reluctor. I use plastic, but brass will work too. The first time I did it, I used a steel feeler gage, and the car would not start. After I removed the reluctor from the distributor and demagnetized it, the engine fired immediately.

You can by pass the ballast resistor with any internally resistor coil available at all parts stores. They will be imprinted on the outside " no external resistor needed" or something to that effect. ..............................MO
