73 Roadrunner Clone with 5.7/545rfe (very pic heavy)

This is amazing, I thought about doing this when I started my restoration back in 2011, but now that I see what's involved, I am glad you did it and I kept my 340 RR pretty much original.!

I am glad I did it also but it has been very involved and is fairly costly. The motor, trans, and ECU were bad enough but its all of the little things that don't get mentioned. $500 headers, $100 gas pedal, $400 in factory sensors that you have to switch out to the old style or new style depending on your harness, all those little adapters and fittings, etc has added up slowly to some extra zeros and a comma in the price tag. I was trying to keep a running total of everything and trying to keep part numbers wrote down to really do a good write up on everything that was needed but in mess of trying to figure out if I needed a 09' charger sending unit or a 2005 ram sending unit for this or that, and is this piece metric thread or standard, I just lost the lists or they got overwritten with the next list of things to do or buy.

I am excited that I will have it but my next car I will plan out a bit differently. The new technology of these bolt on fuel injection units has come along great and I will not be afraid to use one of those on my next ride to add some modern convenience! but keep that original charm!

500 dollar headers, you lucked out mine were $1000 for my coronet lol. I can imagine all the electronics add up quickly.

Yeah, I found a really good deal on E-bay for hi-heat black Doug's headers! The plain uncoated ones were about 75 less, and I think the shiny (not sure what kind of coating) was about $75 more. The reviews were pretty good for the Doug's (basically TTI knockoffs) and they have fit really well for me!

Doug’s headers have been around a long time, I wouldn’t call them a knockoff. $500 is a good price for those.

So I was able to get a little more done today...

I mounted up the rear bumper and hated how far out it sat from the car. So with a little FBBO digging I found an awesome post with this link it to tuck the bumper up!

I didn’t take as much out as they did I only took an inch out of the mounts and it has made a huge difference!

Unfortunately I didnt take any before photos... but alas, I like the fitment. On to the next thing to button up!

The show is up north of Denver in Fort Collins every summer. Good times!

That would be a fun cruise out there! It will depend on when it is! My son will be heading to Europe for a musical thing at the end of June so I will need to see him off and I think the Power Tour should be around in there too!

I will post it up in the car show section when we get the date set this year, its typically in July or early August. We have had people from as far as Albuquerque show up at it. Or remind me in a month or so, should know the date by then.

Very Nice! I'm doing a 71 with an 04 5.7 and 545rfe and your pics of the power steering are going to come in real handy. Thanks. I didn't buy the engine with all the accessories and am now paying the price trying to chase down bolts and a bracket. Didn't even consider that with it over 10 years old they would not be supporting some of the parts anymore. Been a royal pain. But I'm looking forward to my "startup" video like yours! Great Job!

That T/A wing looks awesome and is that a full QA1 suspension?

One thing I did not highlight well in my original post and usually is a contentious issue is how we mounted the Hemi ECU. It is mounted under the dash on the driver's side against the driver's side wall. Nathan made these trick standoff brackets to clear parking brake cable and hood release. So I snapped a few pictures of installed as well as the modified fuse blocks we used. The fuse blocks included in with Hotwire harness are a common and inexpensive slide together blocks that allow you to add as many rows as you want. I also grabbed a picture of how the relays are mounted inside the driver's side wall.

VERY cool build. When I built mine I just bought an entire wrecked 07 Charger from Coparts. Cost me $6700.00 and I drove it off the lot!. It had 23000 miles on it and had been hit in the right rear 1/4. I cannot tell you how many times we made the treck to the back yard to see if there was a part or fastener there that would work for whatever we were trying to solve ...and found what we needed. I ended up with the 5.7, NAG1, entire dash and console, the entire brake system, the steering column, and numerous other little things. I sold about $2500 worth of parts and panels that were still good and got $187 for the hulk that was left. So I got all that for about $4k. Tried to use the entire harness but it was just too much modifying so we gave up and re-wired the entire car.
You are going to love the performance!

That is amazing! The work that went into that had to have been astonishing! Do you pics or a build thread?

That is definitely the way to do it. Wish I had done the same. But it'll all work out, just a lot of chasing my tail in the process... Can't wait to see how she runs. Hope to have it started by end of March. It's already registered to be at the Street Machine Nationals in Duquoin Ill in June. Wanted to drive it there from Texas but I'll be happy if it can trailer there at this point.. :p
