Looking for any information related to the 1965 Plymouth 2% A/FX cars built prior to the 10/15 A/FX cars. There were only 4 2% cars built in 1965 2 were dodges and 2 were Plymouths. the Plymouths were Golden Commandos and Melrose missile. The Dodges were Color me Gone and Ramchargers. I am mainly looking for info on the Plymouth as I hope to make my 1965 satellite similar in characteristics to these cars. I have read that Plymouths were not altered in the rear but the front wheels were moved forward 3 inches. What I need info on is the body, doors, interior, and windows?

1. Did They use fiberglass front ends or acid dipped steel front ends?

2. The 2% cars can be seen using sedan doors, how did the factory make the post that goes from the front of the quarter to the roof? What did they use?

3. Did they use a fiberglass Dash like they did in the 10/15 cars

4.did they use factory glass or lightweight glass for the front, rear, and quarter glass, if so what type of lightweight glass did they use?

I understand that the 2% AFX cars are a very under-researched topic but I'm really intrigued by them. If anyone has information or knows anyone that might, please let me know.

By the looks of the 2 pics you posted, the front ends don't appear to be moved forward. I really hope you get some knowing responses on this, as I am very interested in all I can learn on these also. Thanks for posting...

I always thought they used a different leaf spring in the rear to move the rear wheels ahead an inch or two.

I'm pretty sure the 2% cars were '64's. Look at Hemi-itis' photos of the RAMCHARGER Dodge above (Unlettered, it's the top right photo). The K frame bolts were moved forward. The leaf spring front section was shortened and the inner fenders were rolled. I don't think they used sedan doors on hardtops...I think all the 2% cars were sedans. This I'm not positive of though.

cecil yother moved to washington state , he would know about those cars since he race it . i have a 63 sf that his tranny guy steve reynolds built back in the day . no altering was done to my 63 .

I will try to get some one who knows a little more about this chime in.
Hey guys,

Let me clear up some things.

First and foremost, there were 8 in total 2% cars built between 1964' and 1965.
The first four 2% percent cars built in 1964 were sedans only. Two were Dodges and two were Plymouths. Both the front and rear wheels were swung forward using special A-arms and front end parts to bring the front wheels forward a scant 3 inches or so. The rears on the Dodges were with special springs and hangers to achieve their swing forward 3-4 inches only. The Plymouths had a natural forward stance for the rear wheels.
The 64' cars like the white and Red one highlighted in Hemi-itis's photo used special aluminum parts in the interior and undercarriages dictated in a factory memo sent to NHRA in mid to late 63'. These parts were especially fabricated along with the standard Hemi A-864 exterior parts used on SS cars consisting of the front fenders, hood and scoop, doors and other various brackets all in aluminum. Some bumpers were aluminum and some were thin gauge steel.

As far as the year 1965, these four additional cars were made using hardtop bodies. These hardtop bodies were also slated for use in that years 10/15/ radical altered wheelbase AFX cars we all know and love.
These 2% cars used thin gauge metal in place of the already outlawed aluminum from the previous year. Windshields were special bubble shaped plexiglass and sedan doors were modified to fit within the hardtop layout using plexiglass for the windows as well. The one tattle tail sign of one of these cars either in 64' or 65' were the deletion of the wind wing vent windows and its hardware on the doors. Full plexiglass sheet was installed in its place to make for a one piece type door.

Looking at Hemi-itis's photo montage, there are a host of different cars there. The first one which is Dandy Dicks car is a bonafide 1965 10/15 AFX altered wheelbase car. The second one is Dandy Dicks 1964 A-864 Sedan SS car that was altered to a 2% stance, but also utilizing a straight axle by Dick himself. Perhaps the first of its kind.
The 3rd photo down is the Diamond. It's the Ramchargers bonafide factory 1964' 2% car. Note the front fender apron cut out to clear the front wheels.
The rest are standard 1964 A-864 Sedan and 1965 A-990 sedan Hemi SS cars with the exception of the ultra modified 66' Dodge.

As far as dashes go, the 1964 2% cars had special aluminum dash boards, (I saw my very first and only one at the Nats years ago) but legend says that the 65' cars had some put in unbeknownst to NHRA who had outlawed aluminum use. What people need to know about these 2% cars is that they were FX cars and not SS cars, so some radical parts were slipped by prying eyes for experimental reasons.
