Ive got a 66 Belvedere 2 and and extra set or two of the body trim. I'd like to start cleaning and polishing up the trim but don't know what metal it is or how to go about it without ruining it. I guess my biggest question is what kind of metal is it? I can youtube and google for hours to get ideas how to polish. Thanks in advance all!

The window trim, wheel lip moldings and drip rail molding are stainless, so you can polish that. I have a Satellite and the trim along the top of the quarters is anodized aluminum, You really can't polish it with a buffer for fear of removing the anodized layer. If the pieces are real light for their size they are aluminum. There are some pretty good chemical cleaners that can help. Hopefully someone else here knows more about a Belvedere 2.

Most is aluminum on the body. Windshield and maybe rear trim stainless.
Look in Kryslerkids "Taking up New Residents" thread he show you how.
Edit: As Don said wheel lip molding and other pieces he mentioned.

Yes, the body moldings is what I was more concerned with. Can you push the aluminum and re anodize or clear coat it?

The anodize layer can be chemically removed and the aluminum polished. The anodize can be replaced ( a chemical process ) or there are several corrosion prevention products on the market to hold that nasty corrosion at bay. I am using a product named Everbrite.

I use Mothers Mag & Aluminum...rub till it turns black then polish. My 66 Sat has a lot of alum. trim as u probably know.

What have you guys done with or about the painted parts of the trim? Or did someone else do that before I owned the car?

After polishing the trim inset can be painted the color of your choice!
