Through the kind guidance of some other forum members, I am moving a conversation about the restoration of my 4 door 1969 Dodge Coronet 440 to the correct location! I bought the car 3/14/2016 as I love the body style of 68 and 69. I chose a 4 door because it is far less expensive than a 2 door and I can make good use of a 4 door to carry my retired neighbors to dinner out and no one has to climb behind a forward tilted front seat! In the first few months I had the car, I started looking for an after market A/C unit as I live in southeastern Arizona! In looking for the A/C unit, I found one on Craigslist for half the price of a new unit. I asked the guy who was selling it if he would install it as he had mentioned installing a unit in another car of his. This is how I came to meet my Friend Carl who is a hardcore Mopar Guy. Carl not only installed the A/C unit, but did tune up work, belts and hoses, thermostat, manifold gasket, oil pan gasket, aluminum radiator installation, brakes, all 4 shocks, and front and rear suspension work among many other things. All this was to get the car safe to drive and take care of most of the leaks. I did new front and rear bumpers myself.

The car always had a noise in the engine and it sounded like a lifter tick, so I was cool to drive the car and check in to that later. As time when by, it seemed that the noise in the engine was getting worse. There is a thread on the forum where people were giving suggestions on how to find out what it was or give their opinion on what it might be. The bottom line is that I made the call to invest the money to rebuild the engine and have the car painted while the engine was out. Check out these youtube videos to see where the project is and of late March 2019!

Looks like a really good car to have some fun with.

Love this machine! I love the fact you used the steelies and caps with the white stripe tires......Classy and cool mixed in one sweet package!

Thanks for posting the videos!

Had a 69 Coronet,440,Hemi 4spd with 9 3/4 Dana 60 w/ 3.55's back in '71...and wish I still had it. Had a lot of good times with it. ( and a few stupid ones...hope you won't). The current project is a 63 4 door model 440 pretty much the same build. Your right on about the prices of 2 doors (I have sons, grandsons and daughters, and 2 great granddaughters on the way). Gotta be practical. Picked it up in excellent shape with 15K miles on it for 3 grand. Keep us posted with your project and good luck. Dave

I love this critter. Great to see she's in the hands of such a good steward.

Bart K has a point about liking the style of the 68/69 regardless of the number of doors (and that Blue works to make his point even more so). I feel the same way about the style and stance of a '63 Dodge....... 2-door, 4-door, wagon, who cares, just gimme one, and I'll drive on....

buddy has a green '69 Coronet 4 door he's redoing. great cars.

Very nice Dave! It is amazing how different our thought processes are when the testosterone is removed from the equation and replaced with grandkids and great grandkids. I would love to see some pics of your project if you have time to post some!

Great post Lefty! I really miss the days when you could tell the make and usually the model by just looking at the shape of the car. These days you have to look at an emblem on most cars to determine who made that particular box......kinda sad!

Wow, that is a beautiful car you have there Basket case! I love that color! Hey, maybe you can talk your buddy in to joining the forum and sharing his restoration with the rest of us!!!

Growing up my parents had a bronze car just like yours. That thing ran forever!
