I was looking at a 440 1970 block on ebay for $5000. It's advertised as a six pack block but does not come with the intake or carbs. It does have HP stamped on it. He does not say what crank, cam or rods are in it. I contacted the seller and said with out the Intake and carbs its basically just a way overpriced 440 block. I offered $2000. He responded by calling me a mindless twerp! So, what do you guys think? Who's the mindless twerp? Him or me?https://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-440-S...m=132990180577&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

Eh, you know it's sometimes (ok, most times to me) considered rude or at least bad form to try and run a guys' stuff
down in order to then buy it for less money.
I know the younger folks don't often have that problem - smack talkin' is part and parcel oftentimes with
them and they don't even get offended when it's done sometimes, but I don't subscribe to that method.

Usually, if you're face to face with the seller, a glance or look from you at them at some point lets the seller know
that YOU know - and gives them a chance to come down to reality and save the deal by being more reasonable.
Same thing can be attempted when on the phone, too - a pause, a sigh, and wait for the seller to realize he might
be a tad unreasonable.

Either way, if they don't back off?
Ok, thanks, see ya around.

It's a parts dealer. Their prices are high on most of their other auctions. They're betting on someone with more disposable income vs savvy who actually wants a heavy rod 440. I think it's a bit high, but they're not the first to use that business model. As moparedtn said above, better to just shake your head and walk away.

I just thought it was rude to totally run off someone who could potentially buy what you are trying to sell. I'm at 2 he's at 5 we make a deal at 3.5. What happened to that kind of deal?

He’s probably offended that you’re less than half of what he wants. At 2, you’re still 1500 over what I’d pay, but I’m not a numbers guy. He’s looking for the guy restoring a 70 six pack car and willing to pay full price. If you’re willing to pay 3.5 and went in at 3, you might have had better luck but might have had to come up with 4.

I see a correct 6-pack harmonic balancer but the pistons on the engine would have the cutouts for the valves....

Nobody likes this complex math.....unless its working for them. Everybody gets irked when they see stuff that's overpriced. That seller has been asking high prices for as long as I've ever seen him, IMO, and I thought he was a member/vendor here. You start high, but not too high, the buyer wants to bring you down, way down, blah, blah blah. As a buyer, if you see he's ridiculously high, then why attempt the game??? If you can get maybe six pack blocks for $350.00, then why don't you??? I'm just sayin, why get your honey directly from the bees nest if you can get it at the store? Just my two cents, im no different, meaning I want it all, and I want it cheap, dirt cheap, unless I'm selling. Play on..... Lefty71

A six pack block is different from a single four barrel block other than the stampings

Well, he has the VIN, which may tell you something, but hes not selling the car, which I doubt exists, so it's really a moot point in my mind. I think you are right, it could be out of anything with a 4bbl I do believe.

I give a lot of credit to anyone who builds a factory correct car with OEM parts and is all numbers matching. I know I could not nor afford to do it.
However if by some random chance that block was the numbers matching correct block for a factory built car i owed , only then would I consider buying it and that would depend on the condition of the block.
This seller just sounds like another guy trying to cash in on a part, hoping a unsuspecting buyer bites

When something is ridiculously overpriced I just move on. If you get into it with the seller then it just pisses you off more. Its like trying to change someone's view on abortion, veganism, animal rights or gun control ... it can't be done.

I'm not into calling names, but unless it was the original block for my car I would have just laughed and moved on. My opinion is you offered more than enough to buy it, and twice as much as I would have paid. If you need a 70 440 HP block why not post a want to buy ad here. With your budget I think you can find one.
what do you guys think? Who's the mindless twerp? Him or me?

.030 over wrong pistons no picture rods, crank. Crank could be cut, may need to be bored more, asking a lot. Your right and so is Hemirunner.

well the guy is a m----r f--k-r if you sell mopar stuff like this the pad on the top left should have a mustily cross witch indicts a .10 under crank. witch i was told was all 6-pack engine due to the weight of the rods . also when you are selling something you should be nice up to a point and say sorry that is my price or i will take your number and call you if i dont get a better offer. that should be the way. other wise tell to kiss your a--

The same guy had a 67 belvedere posted here and all over craigslist. I believe it was even on ebay at one point. He wanted 2k for the car I offered him 1500 since I would have to go to Jacksonville FL to pick it up. Nope he stuck to his price and the car sat unsold for quite a bit longer. It was missing the left front fender the car was black primer but seemed to be white under the primer. It was a shell no interior just a bare body. He was also selling a mismatched "Hemi" the was missing most of the parts. I think it was a block and some heads.

All you have to do is go the the eBay ad, scroll down and report the item. :elmer:Boom!
