PST rear sway bar problem

Read it all. Sweet!!!

I learned that the car has to be supported under the axle when adding a rear bar.
Either use jack stands or a drive on hoist. You want the leafs flat.
My boss at the Sears I worked at in the 70s let me put my bar in in the garage, during my break.
you want the car on the ground when attaching it to the frame as far as holding up the rear end I had a small jack underneath the shackle plate when installing the mid section hanger.

Supporting the axle with jack stands is the same as having the car on the ground.
Additionally, supporting the front to keep the rocker panels level with the ground is always a smart thing to do. But, I'd still prefer a drive on hoist....
That keeps the car at the normal ride height.
Did you use the factory locating points in the frame rails to attach your bar?
Mine had indents, which I drilled out and then fished the "U" bolt in to attach the bar bushings.
My bars 'arms' were parallel with the leaf springs when installed.

It's the wrong sway bar after numerous attempts at trying to install it the width of it is to short it won't reach the frame so after spending at least 20 hours on it I gotta call Dan on monday and see what my options are . They have a 3/4" sway bar that looks like the one thats for my car . Between the directions being wrong and this I'm done working on it for awhile.

This is the one I have now.

Man what a waste of your time...

That should work, since it's a copy of the ADDCO bar!
The problem is the one I ordered when you go online it list both will fit my car so i pick the stiffer one which doesn't fit my car grrrr.

The one you have now looks like a factory "Rallye" package bar.
Totally different attachment. Find a pic on the net of the factory set up and you'll see what I mean. I think 340, 400 and 440 cars got them with the Rallye package. An "SE" did not. (IIRC)

That pic of the 'new' 3/4 bar, with the hump over the driveshaft, looks a lot like the ADDCO rear bar pic I posted. Those links are what I was talking about: changing the durometer of the rubber pieces to fine tune it.
And, if you drive it hard in the corners like I did, the 2 straps to the U bolts will fail!

I sent that sway bar back for and exchange for the 3/4" one.

I know this is an old thread but how did everything work out for you?
I'm contemplating a rear sway bar for my '72.

If you're going rear sway bar, I recommend installing one from Firm Feel like I did on my 68 b body. It's frame hung so it mounts ABOVE the rear axle instead of hanging below it. I had my go to suspension shop install it while I watched from under the car. It took a bit of needle threading from a certain angle, but they were able to snake it up and over the axle and mount it up with the car in the air without disassembling one single item from my car. It works great too. i highly recommend the Firm Feel rear sway bar.

I agree for a couple reasons. 1, the Firm Feel unit mounts like the factory did on B & E bodies. Only adds a couple pounds to the un-sprung weight. 2, the under axle unit adds all of the weight to the un-sprung weight and IMO, uglies up the underside of the car from the rear. Here are a couple pics of how it mounts.

Good idea, I am sending them my steering box so maybe I will pick up the sway bar as well, thanks.

I haven’t installed it because I ran into a problem with my dual exhaust is in the way .I’d go with Firmfeel.

I have a couple PST rear bars and if you have the correct rear sway bar mounts from the factory, I didn’t have an issue. The OP didn’t have the original factory mounting brackets for the rear shock plate.
