Didn't even think about doing that when I was running my /6 car....but it was consistent as could be so it really didn't matter. The biggest change was going to a 4.10 gear from a 2.94 and the ET went from 19.66 to 18.10.Great Job. Yes it is proven that cool air will help performance. Believe it or not for $10 on a Slant I was racing it picked up 4 tenths. Not as nice as yours but it worked. View attachment 816552
What do you mean not as nice, you did it yourself and it looks great. One of the best jobs is to say you did it with your own hands, and it works. Bravo on the DYI.Great Job. I think I actually had a pair of pants in the 60s that looked like that. Lost in space was so cool for the time. Was in love with wills sister! Even his claws are painted PP1 bright red.
There is no sound inside, the air is drawn from the vent at the base of the windshield. There is a rib weld line on the firewall that separates the inside foot well from the upper outside air vent area. With vintage air conditioning, they draw air from inside the car, resurculating the cabin air. So no chance of vapors or backfire into car. I cut a 3” hole just above, and 6.5” in from edge of hood, above the weld line that sticks out about 3/4 of an inch, at an angle. From there the intake tube pass”s through the cut upper firewall and makes a turn toward the vent opening at the base of wind shield. Here are some crude drawings and a couple of pics. I hope this helps. Spectre has all the tubing and couplings and fittings you’ll need. I just found a duel snorkel air cleaner at swap meet for 20 bucks, painted black, decaled, and tried to make look fake stock.ive been thinking of a cold air intake for my 66 Coronet
can you provide pics of what is happening on the interior side of air duct work?
what is the sound like on the interior?
thanks,

I have a K/N filter inside the dual snorkel filter housing. That way the intake tubes are clear flow to the housing. The tubing running through the firewall is 3” but the engine area is 4” due to the size of dual inlet air cleaner. If your air cleaner is 3” then run that size tubing. Like I said in earlier post, the cooler air has stopped any and all pinging on hard acceleration. Was able to add in more timing, more power on hard acc. I run 93 octane without any pinging. Send pictures if you attempt project, or write me if you need more help. I love do it yourself projects.awesome. thank you for the detail!
i was thinking you had a K&N filter where the glove box would be
is that 3” tubing in the engine bay and in that upper outside vent area?

Ya, I thought the same thing, but I would have to move the battery to the trunk, move horns and reroute Freon lines, cut two holes. Then build in the air horn inlets. Whew! Would look cool. The best thing I did was to buy at Home Depot a diablo brand 3 1/2 hole saw and run it about 150 rpm. It just melted right through the firewall.this is on my list. i was thinking of going through rad support and removing a headlight but i have too much going on in those areas.
i have an MSD Atomic EFI atop my 440 and i think it deserves cool air too
your approach resonates with me. ill probably go this way too
