Trim came off easy enough but can someone tell me how to remove and install new side molding clips. Also how does the molding on top of the door and on top of the quarter (under the rear window) come off?. Does anyone know where to buy these side molding clips or any other molding clips used on the 64 Polara?.

The belt Moldings just carefully pry them up as they have clips similar to door panel clips. I believe there is a one nut on a clip that has a stud on each side of the door pieces on the door jamb side. The side trim uses a plastic push pin to install and remove the clips. If they are not broke I would just clean them up and re-use them. If searching you can try R/T specialties.

I used a plastic scraper to lift the trim up then I could see where the clips were. I didn't have much luck saving the push in pin ones. I also used alot of wd-40 to help take the window trim off. Not a fun job can't wait to put it all back on.

ok,thanks guys .I saw them on fee bay also, was hoping maybe someone knew a supplier to get them from. $220 for some plastic clips hurts a little .I guess i'll have to bite the bullet and just get them if i can't source them from somewhere .Truth is i'm just glad i can still get them.So to put them on you just push the plastic center pin in from the outside ,correct?.

That's correct re the install process. Somebody might be selling just new 'D' clips but if so I haven't ran across them yet, either online or at Carlisle. I have seen used ones for sale at Carlisle....

When I took my Polara side trim off a few years ago, about 1/2 of those 'D' clips look reusable and the other 1/2 were either broken or disintegrating. Since they're a plastic of some kind it's impressive that they've lasted as long as they have, but I'll be putting new clips on my car when I get to that point in its restoration.

Mr. Dan, you got a sweet ride if you get yours done before I do let's trade lol.

Well,i looked at all the places i knew of to find these little clips for less money but to no avail so i got the ones off of e bay ($220). Most of the bigger "D" shaped ones came off ok,some broke but not to many. The smaller ones for the upper body side molding where a little tougher to get off in useable condition. I'll Hold on to all of the used ones i can in case someone is short a couple.Getting the side window molding off is proving to be a bit of a p.i.t.a.. There's a big clip that holds the quarter window molding on right where that molding meets up to the back window . I couldn't figured out how to get that last clip off so i got to it from the inside from behind the sail panel area . I have replace the headliner anyway. Is this really the only way to remove that piece of molding?. Haven't even gotten to the front and back window molding yet, doesn't look like fun.

Somewhere in my travels i came across a website that had every clip from every car manufacture know to man. You would of thought i would have put that i my notes. This place had all the different style clips with pictures and sizes so it made it pretty easy to find the ones you where after. Anybody know the name of the place?.It's not AMK inc or "clips and Fastners" .com although they have a lot. I remember thinking that they must be the manufacture that is suppling all the retailers.

My trim around the rear windows was easy to remove as it is a rag top...Just take your time nothing worse than bending a nice piece of trim...

I know it ! I messed up that side window piece a little, thank goodness i have a guy local to me that will fix it up like new ( GTL Metals in jackson N.J.) still i was mad as hell at myself. I'm going to look up some you tube videos or something to figure out how to do the front and back window piece.

Dan if I remember correctly again I used a plastic scrapper the trim for the front and back not bad I believe that I used one scraper to lift the trim to see the clips. Once I found it I used other scraper to pull up at the clip and then it popped out. Don't remember for a fact but that's the way I remember it. You would think I would have taken a video of it but not that smart.
