I recently bought a 68 Charger, my first B-body. A few questions:

1) The high beam indicator light is red, not blue. Is that correct?
2) When I push the door lock knob down and close the door it pops up. The only way to lock the doors when getting out of the car is with the key. Correct or is there a problem in the door lock linkage?
3) To signal for a lane change I have to push the lever all the way into detent and return it manually. The signal doesn't work if I just go part way. Correct or problem?

Correct, helps prevent locking the keys in the car.

It should return when the wheel is returned to center.
Something is wrong here.

High beam indicator is RED.

Drivers door is supposed to do that! As Don noted, so you don't lock your keys in the car, someone at Chrysler was smart!

Of course you have to fully detent the signal lever.. it ain't no 2019 ! Does it self cancel after a real turn, not a lanechange, but a real turn. If not your signal switch is broken under the steering wheel.

It does return on a real turn. My 74 Challenger has lane change signal without going to detent. I wonder what year that started.
Thanks for the answers guys.

Correct on all three questions. This is a 1968 automobile not a 2018.
I don't remember what year they went to blue on the high beams. Question 2, you can't lock your keys in the car. Question 3, if the turn signals cancel automatically when you make a 90 degree or better turn, everything is working properly.

I might bee wrong, but IIRC, if you press the outside door handle button when you close it, the lock will stay down...

^^^This. Hold the button on the outside while closing.

I think your trying to use the turn signal by pushing it to lane change and not the entire way? It should engage just before it gets to the detent I think. I’ll have to try it on the 67.

I did try holding the door handle button in but that didn't work either.

Mine's a '68 too, the 'hold the button down while closing the door' does nothing but keeps the door from latching when you close it, the lock still pops up..

Well, I messed that up. Went out to the garage and sure enough, the button push didn’t work on the 67. Now I’m sure I’ve done this button thing before. Went over to the 69 Chevy and sure enough the button trick worked on that! That one also pops back up in case anyone cares.

Sorry for the mis-information.

It looks like everything is working properly with your car. I don't think Chrysler started the lane change feature until around 1971. I remember putting a newer turn signal switch in my 70 Challenger for that same reason. Possibly the new aftermarket switches will have that feature.

old VWs do the lock thing, you hold the door button in when you close the door to lock it.

It's not a GM, you don't hold the button in on the door when closing. All your 68 B body things are working correctly. :D

Oh, no, wait. It's all broken. I'll take that broken 68 off your hands....LOL!
