Yankee Express RestoMod Project

Ghost, I have nothing but love for you and this car!! I did a car like this before and got nothing but crap from the purest. I'll say it was a Chevy and it had every car you can imagine in it, tastefully. The last thing I did was hook up a road runner horn, left the original, just add the other. When I sold it, which didn't take long, I kept the horn, if you want it, it's yours, free. it's black. Just say the word!!!
Holy cow! WORD!

Parts on the way; 1" "C" channel to go under tank straps, a mini starter for the BB, a beep beep horn, trunk deck DODGE letters. The last two are freebies from a couple of FBBO brothers in crime. You know who u are....:lowdown::icon_fU:

G body with a 1960 Chevy dash

Hung the left lower quarter tail finally. Went okay. Needs some skim coat of filler to smooth out a few places.

Thinking outside of the box takes a certain vision. It gives a person a chance to leave there mark on a project that others that aren't into it wouldn't understand. There are only three G bodies in the world that have a 60 Chevy dash, a grand national, monte LS in Germany and only one SS. Yours will be one of one, that's why yours is going to be a bitchin ride!!! But, you already know that.....Ulli

I can only agree!

I cut and welded in the quarter tail return which will be hidden behind the leading edge of the bumper end. I installed the tail light backing frame and made some modifications to the trunk seal lip to straighten it up and brace it more. I fooled around with both quarter tail end caps to get them shaped right around the tail light frame and am now studying up on making them out of something else. Like resin or plastic or fiberglass. I am determined to get them right. I applied seam sealer everywhere and need another tube to finish before I prime the interior sections and put down Fat Mat. Next up is filling trim holes and filler to get the whole car smoothed out. Then painting it.

Well this happened...the tail extensions cracked. So, I have now fiber glassed one to see how it goes. Little more to do yet but it looks promising. I REALLY do not want to back up and re do this rear panel to make a different design. These extensions have to freaking work. Also I am planning to buy another pop up gas filler and place it on the other quarter in the exact same place as the first one. Symmetry you know...plus it will be cool to pull up on either side of the gas pump.

If you're going to 'glass it up, I hope you used epoxy resin rather than polyester resin. It costs more, but is far stronger, bonds better and shrinks less. Great project happening here!

Well, I looked at the can of resin. It's 3M Bondo Fiberglass Resin. No clue which type.

Then it will be the regular polyester type. Especially telling is the smell - epoxy resin is very low odor in comparison. Also epoxy uses much more hardener, usually at least 25% and sometimes one-to-one depending on the kit.

Edit to my thinking I was done with mods to the Express. It was suggested that in the interest of symmetry I install a second pop up gas cap on the opposite side of the trunk deck on the top of the quarter. I'll be able to use either side of the pump!. I'll extend a fill pipe across to the original one and connect to a "Y" inlet to the fuel cell. Could engrave on cap with "NITRO" and the other with "JET FUEL"...lol.

Same spot but on the other side of the car...
