Im looking at a set of mechanical carbs. It looks like the float adjusting nuts are offset on the mechanical carbs and will hit the stock air cleaner. Anyone have experience with them?

You're looking at carbs with side hung floats? If the price is right you could always get center hung bowls and switch them over.

Thats a good idea....i should have realized that. Thanks

The mechanical carbs have entering blocks & therefore don't have room for center hung float bowls.... The air cleaner should clear, it was a common upgrade back in the 70's...

An original center carb has a metering block and center hung floats and it fits!

If you look the spacing for the rear carb is to tight.... Trust me.... Or don't.. LOL..

Center hung bowls will not work because of the rear carb. I think the fuel line entrance on the front carb is the issue with a stock air cleaner. I run a A12 base on mine and it works fine cause it’s flat. I’m sure the fuel line issue can be worked around though.

I do them all the time, I make my own front fitting or I run the line out back or run 3 separate lines like 68 HEMI GTX. I use a stock 440 6 pack air cleaner but you have to put a dent in it for the front fitting to clear. I know I have a picture of a air cleaner but cant find it at the moment.

With a little work you can swap the small center out with a 4412 carb.

Take a look at this. He has mechanical carbs with center hung floats. Upon further inspection he fabricated an offset for the rear carb! wild! Cant use stock aircleaner now
