NASCAR it, sell it, or part it?

its probably the direction of your phone camera,
you have to hold it a certain way to be straight up and down.

I paid 5 grand for a rust free California 73 Charger delivered to Rhode Island. The 73/74 B body market is still very soft. I see people asking 71/72 b body money for them, but they aren't selling for that.

I say it is way cheaper to start with as good a body and as complete as can, than go the other way! I agree the market for stuff after 71 will always be soft to softer, no matter what model or make. If you get a better project, it helps to have parts car handy too.

Nice options on the ole girl but unfortunately she's been road hard and put up wet too many times. I sold a solid, running and complete 73 Charger with a transplanted X-head 340 out of a Challenger to a guy in Australia for 3500.00. Third generation Chargers are out there if this is what scratches your itch.
I agree with most here finding a better platform to start with you'll be dollars ahead. Everything can be fixed within reason but it's kinda like owning a boat (black hole for money).

Some of you guys must be kidding!
There's nothing wrong with this car the title is an issue but can be resolved. Yes it has rust that's part of fixing these cars . This is one of the rarest 73-74 cars ever made !!!!

I would gladly give it a new home . And whoever needs to put $60000 in a car to get it fixed has no business working on cars I can pro tour that car for under $30k with disc brakes 5 speed .....
Your ether shopping in the wrong place or paying someone to build it for you!

Finally that's not a power sunroof guys !
It's a Manuel crank they stopped power roofs in these years !

It's a cool car,but with no matching numbers engine, or trans, and the rust issues, one would be upside down before the first wrench was turned on it. As you said, it may make a good restomod.

You could find one restored cheaper than restoring this one........

Unfortunately, the car had a hard life.....

logic
first theres all the body work, and paint.
thats gonna be spensive, esp on this car.
its rusty from top to bottom.
then theres the tattered interior missing quite a bit.
then, theres the engine trans exhaust cooling fuel and brake and suspension systems.
then theres all this pro mod equipment you mention, which also isnt cheap
you went over budget about 15 grand ago.......
for a 73 charger that sells for 15 grand in Really nice condition already.

i wouldnt call the 340 cars the rarest of that breed either,
as the 440 cars were much more scarce and few are out there.
esp 73-74

ty for pointing out the manual sunroof aspect tho.
seems like that would make it even more valuable.

Uh, Oh....

Challenge:

Find a 73 Rallye 340/AT slapstick, PW, AC, halo top, sunroof car in TX9 with a reflective strobe stripe.

...for under....what $$,$$$?

in the same condition?
restored?...original low mile survivor?

look what 12k buys you.
Compare.
1973 Dodge Charger big block 400 4 barrel pistol grip 4spd. Rare numbers matching car 1 of 278 produced with engine and trans combo. Many new parts gas tank, tires, front end rebuilt, new steering gear, rebuilt original carb, brakes, battery ect. Looks like original paint with minor rust, scratches small dents there only original once. The car is a driver but still needs restoration. Asking $12,500

this is after looking for 1 minute.
these cars do not bring a lot of money..
sure there are some out there Asking 30k plus but, they arent Getting it.

...and for the record, I'm in the same boat as the OP.

My 72 is a 1 of 503 car.

I can't decide what to do with it, either.

It could be repaired, but needs both quarters, dutchman, roof, lower cowl, one door hinge panel, and one fender.

That's a **** pile of hard, and/or expensive work.

The "unibody" is quite nice, however and 99% of the original parts are there except the engine.

If my roof looked like the OP's It would already be fixed.
I expect the same with the quarter patches judging by the pics.

We restore and ply with our old cars because we love it all. But we have to be able to justify the $, not always our time. I can do 95% of my own work, it may not be perfect but I am not a perfect guy.
I have had mst of them all. Back in 2005, I had a 73 ( or was it 74?) base Charger, not a Rallye originally a 400 4 speed but had a 383 in it. I bought it as a real nice driver, IT took me 2 years to find someone to give me $3500 for it, yes that was 14 years ago I admit. I forget the numbers seems like 1 or 75 comes to mind. No open top or anything just bare bones and white.
My last trip ( which had started back in '88 maybe) to Mopar Nats, I parted everything off a 73 or 4 charger from friends boneyard and took it all there. Yes I was always cheaper than most anyone. I sold every piece off that car to my amazement.
I have a few F bodies nothing rare as T top cars or super coupes, just base RR and etc. They are post 71 cars, dirt cheap!!! Yes I admit a 3 rd gen charger is better property but... they just don't bring the when you try to sell, so I always keep that in mind.
Sorta like this 62 Dart I am doing now. It has all the stainless trim. If that stuff was missing I would probably pay more to get that than I gave for the complete car!!!
Question is always how much stuff do I have to buy, and what will I have to pay for someone else's labor?
We all by projects either because we love the process OR we can't or won't pay more $$$ for a better car to begin with!????/

sell it
sell it now, while the getting is good
or part it out, if you don't care about the "alleged" rarity

don't put any more $$ in it
move along, to the next better less rusted/rotted
labor intensive project
way quicker to be able to enjoy them

unless you have some sentimental connection to that car
it'd be a $$$ pit, even if you did all the work yourself
not that spending $$ on what you want matters
I say 'to each their own'

rare (like a freaken' sun roof) doesn't equate to value always
there's reason why they didn't have many

it'd be different story if it was
a real 440 car (or 6bbl or Hemi) a 4 speed car
or a 71 Super Bee or R/T

that's my opinions
yours may vary, you're welcome to them too

good luck

I am going to be putting my 71 Charger R/T 440 4 speed Ramcharger hood car together as a roller soon, and putting it up forsale soon. If you are going to put your money into a third gen, build one you can get your money back on.

I have always/ do want a wagon. I bought this 73 because my dad has a 73 challenger. At the time I didn’t realize what I was doing/ getting, I was 20. I have learned a lot on this site, and I could probably get it done, but who knows how long it would take me let alone the cost.

I have a 73 as well,but its a driver,that i don't have high expectations about.
