A follow up to my original post. 440 crate motor

Ok so I have purchased a crate motor 440 that is built and pushing about 550hp along with a built 727 transmission with a 2800rpm stall converter now my question is what would be the best way to keep it cooled? The car already has somewhat of a beefed up cooling system due to the built 383 that was in there but I do not believe it will be suitable for the built 440 I am putting in there. The water pump on the new motor is a high flow pump so I believe that should be alright any suggestions would be great because the car is in the shop now being prepared to have all of the work done to it including 4 wheel drum to disc conversion, motor, trans, new fuel tank and more so want to figure something out soon so that I can order what I need

It looks like you have a stock brass radiator in there now. How many rows, shroud in place, how wide? A 440 can live with a good three row 26" wide radiator utilizing a shroud like it came from the factory with. Be careful of the aftermarket water pump tho, because there is a huge variation in flo rates, and some of the aftermarket ones are pretty crappy whilst touting high flow rates. There's a link to a water pump comparison I'll try to find you... Anyway, if stock doesnt matter much to you, then you can easily get a new alumunum radiator that will cool just about any monster you can create, and fit in your stock body configuration. Griffin would be good, and there's another one making stock appearing aluminum, but the name escapes at the moment.... HTH, Lefty71

X2 on the factory style shroud and also proper positioning of the fan in the shroud. My 440 has a champion aluminum radiator, stock pump and stat with factory shroud, flex fan half in and half out of the shroud and temps are steady no matter what.

The radiator in the car is not stock was replaced when the builder built the 383 that is in the car now but I do not believe it will be good enough for cooling this monster. It is a 26" radiator with upper hose on passenger side and lower hose on drivers side

We need more specs on your present rad to make some suggestions. Your rad may be ok.

I don’t get it.... you ask for suggestions but then respond by saying your current radiator will cool it?
