Ok Guys ready for some experience to speak to me , received my new carpets for 67 hardtop gtx 4/s would appreciate your install help , not scarred just being smart, thanks for help in advance !

Lay it flat for a couple weeks and let it flatten some.

Be careful around the headlight full beam/dip switch, and obviously around the cut out for the shifter. If it's a 2 piece carpet which I assume it is, try to get your overlap correct so you aren't left short at either end. Under the door sills carefully trim the carpet so it overhangs the sill slightly so the sill plates have something to lock onto. Check the thickness of the jute backing, mine had huge amounts in places which made it lumpy. It's one of them jobs where the second time you do it, it will be way better than the first. I might re-do mine at some point as my first attempt was frankly rubbish (refer all the points above to see my mistakes haha).

Don’t cut holes too big or in wrong place. Sounds obvious but you can’t go back and re-do cuts later.

Yes lay it out flat first. Cut small holes for the floor brackets first, get the thing in there and flat then enlarge as needed. Remove the hi beam switch, let the carpet lay flat for a few days, then mark and cut the hole for it.

The gas pedal needs to have a rectangle hole cut of carpet that is supposed to be located in right front corner of heel pad. I feel that is the most important part of laying carpet in place. With the 4-speed hump right next to it, you may have to work with what you got, if heel pad isn't located in the right spot on the carpet. I find too many cars with gas pedal installed in wrong spot of the carpet.

Consider adding a layer of insulation or matt under the carpet to help with exhaust heat & noise. Make sure your taillight wiring and console (if you have one) wiring are in place & ok 1st

Sounds good thinking about using a steamer or maybe a heat gun gently to help spread it out , it’s winter here hard to lay out in sun to relax it , any views on this ?

For me, the plastic mat that’s stitched into the carpet by the mfg (under drivers feet) wanted to lay out of square or out of parallel with my drivers seat. It was frustrating and kind of bothered me. It’s crooked to this day. So, may wanna double check to see how that plastic mat looks when you lay the carpet in the car for first time. The high beams button on the floor can be tricky too.

In general, I think leaving more material is better than cutting yourself too short. You can always go back later and trim further if need be.

I cut out and saved the rubber foot mat area and used as a template as it was still the factory carpet. I used same template on my 66 belvedere as well as my 67. I also poke screwdrivers in seat track holes to keep in place as I am trimming. This is after I make sure I happy with placement. Just my two cents.

Slightly is the operative word. Too much overhang and it will wick up water that comes down the front door jamb (hinge side) and gets under the sill plate .

What up a screw driver/ ice pick with a torch or heat gun to poke holes for mounting holes to seat frame, console,shifter ect. It will melt the carpet instead of fraying it.

I just had a carpet replaced by factory because heal pad was in wrong place. I don't have new yet but it should fit better I hope. If it is not correct call about it and tell them why. I sent pictures along with my complaint. Vhf

Your pics were very helpful,but could you give me another view closer of the underside view of the dash both sides of the trans hump for verification,thanks

I ordered through Stock Interiors that sells ACC.Ordered fron and rear UNtruimmed with add'l material on the rear as I have no back seat. I also don't like when you look through the back window and see the top of the carpet,I like it up further.
Take your time and even cut a little longer in the critical spots to get it the way you want it!!

A number of years ago a friend asked me to help with his carpet install and once it was in position i was going to make holes for the seat tracks with a screwdriver. He had a better idea, and plugs in a cheap pencil soldering iron and made nice clean holes from underneath. Used that method ever since for other replacements.
