I spent some time looking at this car over the weekend at Kissimmee.

One of the things that caught my eye was the lack of lug nuts on the front wheels, also, no knock offs. The front wheels are definitely one piece. How are the front wheels attached to the hubs?

There is a good closeup of the front wheel in the gallery for the car.

spindle mount i.e the wheel barring torque and cotter key style mount a few different ways depending on type of barring. the back of the rim may have square interlocking to a rotor for brakes but most early drag car did not run brakes so it would free wheel

Yep, the wheel has bearings in it like the brake drums would have had. Notice: no front brakes. The wheel attaches with a nut and kotter key.

Also, fwiw, I think those on Smiths' car, and this Willys, are vintage real magnesium American racing spindle mounts. Repos run $1000/wheel, seen originals asking $3500 a pair.
