Ok to start off I know that ma mopar had different oil pumps. I know the rear sump was for trucks and the other was for cars. I have a cammed over 360 from an old truck and was wanting to put it in 73 satellite. My question is why do I need to swap oil pans? Is it clearance with K member or ground clearance or is it safe? This car will not see any road use, it's only gna be a bracket car for 1/8th mile fun.Any info would be nice, thanks guys.

You might be able to use your truck pan if you are willing to cut two big holes in it, weld in a tube for the tie rod to go through, disassemble the front steering, drop in the motor then put the tie rod through the pan and hook it back up.
In other words, get a passenger car pan for tie rod steering clearance.
As an aside, there ARE deep pans done the way i,'ve described, to get a lot of oil in the pan as far away from the crank as possible .

This is a SB mopar car oil pan, front is on the right side. This is what will clear everything on your frame suspension and steering. Compare this to your truck pan. Anything else and you will be cutting and modifying.

It’s pretty easy to change an oil pan with the engine out of the car. Have fun!

And it has to be a 360 pan, 273,318, and 340s have different shape, front and rear at timing chain cover and rear main.

You will also need the matching pickup pipe to go with the appropriate pan, and the correct dip stick.

This is totally correct from 33 IMP.... I personally would try to get an original pan from a 360 in a late model B body, like Cordoba, Mirada, etc. The number is a 392 and will be stamped in the bottom of the pan. I have found a few in the salvage yards. Good luck on your search!

Damned refreshing to see an initial post on here that was actually a good question.
Thanks MM9, I learned something today.
The guys on here won't steer you wrong.....maybe on occasion.:D

I put a 360 from a 75 Coronet into my 78 pickup. Had to change the pan and pickup. The truck pan will hit the K member in your B body. I dont have the 75 pan anymore. It is probably exactly why you would need.
