I have a 62 Dart 440, which has the round white reverse lights on top, and the red tail lights on the bottom.

I have another set of red lenses, and I would like to mimic the Polara tail lights, all 4 round red.
Basically for safety reasons and to make myself feel better.

What to do about reverse lights?

I don't think the Polara reverse lights/trim would look right, the trim is much larger, and finding it would be difficult I'm sure.

I thought about swapping my reverse and tail lights so the red is on top, but not sure if that's better or worse, and I'd still like all 4 red.
Not worried about the wiring.

Hella makes some nice 3rd brake lamps. They stick on the back glass and are LED equipped. Daniel Stern sells them.

Two of my cars don’t even have backup lights, they were an option. Do you really need them? I’ve never really missed mine. 65 Belvedere 1, 64 Savoy, my 63 Fury has them.

I didn't think of that, I guess they were an option. Now that I think of it, some 62s have the chrome insert where the reverse lense would go.

Anyone know where, if at all, it would be documented that reverse lights in 62 were an option?
Just thinking ahead to inspection time.

Recently I had to explain that in 64 the front driving lights go off when the headlights go on, and they kept telling me they were still going to pass it, but wouldn't accept my explanation.
I hear a later light switch will solve that though.

@khryslerkid can you please let me know how your tail lights work, which are directionals, brake, etc?
And if possible how it's wired?

I went thru your thread, I thought you covered that but maybe not.

You can almost wire them anyway you want. There's two videos I posted. One is factory and one I was experimenting with them. (Post #357)

Thank you, couldn't find that at all.

I think I'll go for all 4 as tail lights, all 4 as brake lights, but only 2 as directionals.

The Polara had the top as directionals, the Dart the bottom.

I think I'll keep the bottom, of course I'll have to refer to this thread to remember what I decided.

If this helps I have a book that clearly shows the reverse lights as an option. My base 62 Dart has the black out covers.

Follow up: I gave incorrect info on this question. Reverse lights were an option on the base model but were standard on the 440’s. Hope this helps.

I have a number of lenses and I'm wondering if I can make one with the clear reverse part either in the center, or the outside ring, and the brake/tail light/directional in the opposite.

A few of the lenses are cracked, but the crack split the center 'cone' out of the lense.
It seems possible with the lense.

I'm not seeing a way to add a second bulb, or spilt the light into two sections.

Something to think about.

Following a range rover home today gave me an idea.
Found these, take the center out of a reverse lense and glue it to a red lense and mount these behind lense to the metal bulb housing.
Use a full red one for the other two lenses.

These are 5.3 inches with the chrome.
Could also just mount these w/o the factory lenses.

$15 for those, they also have brake with Amber turn signals for $20, and other options.

That is a good idea. My 62 dart didn’t have the reverse lights option. Just the chrome blank disks. The wiring looks to have the reverse light plugs ready to hook some reverse lights up to. I got a couple of reverse lights from a member on this site and am ready to remove the blanks and put in the lights. Unfortunately one of centers of the clear part of the light has the middle broken out. I may actually try that idea as I saw the clear replacement on eBay for $150. I just can’t justify that cost.

I think that's one of the coolest things about a base line Dart, the blanked out upper tail light.
