Three sided double album

Here is an unusual one for all the vinyl aficionados. I found this at an estate sale today. I am a Johnny Winter fan, but had never heard of this album. The album opens up because there are two records in it. On the inside there is a list of the songs, but it only shows three sides. Intrigued, I pulled out the records and found one side of one record completely smooth, no grooves, no label. At only a dollar, I had to have it. At home I found this liner note - "We went to Nashville to cut our new album. The original plan was to cut as much material as possible and pick the best of what was cut to make up a regular one-record album. After we finished, we found out that if all the songs were used we might lose some volume if only one record were used. Since it is very important to us that our album be as loud as is technically possible, we had a problem. We had cut everything we wanted to and everything we had planned on doing and we didn't have anything else that we really wanted to do. We also really liked everything we'd done and didn't want to leave any of the songs out. We couldn't honestly give you more, and we didn't want to give you less, so here is exactly what we did in Nashville - no more and no less."

Very cool find! I've got a "triple" at home, I believe by The Flaming Lips. I'll dig it out tonight and check.

Found it. Knew it was The Flaming Lips. This is a 2005 re-issue of their 1989 release "Telepathic Surgery".

Great find! Some of these are rare to get ahold of. I collect as well. Most of mine are from the 60's. I still had most LP's from my youth I have some early Beatles Mono records. I still find the occasional rare record out there but there is a gaining interest now so you have to dig deeper. So much fun. Like any collectable the fun is in the search.

I have a 3 sided "bootlegged" blank label Rolling Stone LP, and I forget who the other one is?.

Apparently Monty Python put out a three sided single album. One side has two grooves cut in it with different material on each groove. Depending on which groove the needle picked up determined what you heard. They didn't give any clue to this on the jacket. The album is called Matching Tie and Handkerchief. I imagine a lot of listeners were scratching their heads when the material being played did not match what the jacket said they should be hearing.

on a side note........

Atlantic, Atco, and Swan Song records were pressed less than a mile from my house...... basically, straight across the street on the other side of farm fields..... Presswell Records, back in the day, everyone worked there at one time or another....... Albums were 1 dollar for employees 2 bucks for a double...... these pics were about 15 years ago, it's been demolished since then....... it was also listed as a "super fund" toxic waste cleanup sight in the 80s after it closed.......... there is a creek right behind it, I have caught multiple 6 + pound bass up stream in the lakes near by, everything down stream was always small
