Out of the blue, Cox Communications Inc., who I have high speed internet service with, just boosted my download speed from 30 Mbps to 60 without raising the monthly fee. They notified me via email. What's the catch?

A lot of times it won’t make a difference, you’re wiring and equipment (computer, iPad etc) determine how fast your connection is. I highly doubt you’re anywhere close to 60mbps.at&t was my provider a while back and I was paying for a premium package with the highest speed internet and I started having a lot of issues with downloads etc. they ran a speed test and I was only able to run at 28-30 mbps. They ended up crediting my account 2 years worth of difference between speed I was paying for and the speed I was actually getting.

The Coxies just came and changed my cable box and left. I had to figure out it was also DVR and how to use it. Still need to figure out somethings. There a volume control in box, VCRed couple programs no audio. That was before realizing it had a DVR.

I doubt your doubt.

Speedtest shows I'm up to 60 since the change. I have fast hardware, dude.

That’s cool, most aren’t set up to run actually high speeds. Now you can download **** 2x as fast lol

Car ****, perhaps.

I haven't experienced buffering since I upgraded to 5 Mbps years ago; even with 4K movies on Amazon and Netflix. Frankly, if they had not informed me I would not have noticed any difference.

It was on the news this evening that speeds were to increase to accommodate those working from home so the internet could keep up with the extra demand.

Seen the same report as Mike ^^^^^^^^^^^^
people working at home plus college & high school kids at home now on line for school.
Or another way of looking at it is it took a pandemic to get better service from your provider that they had all the while.

So those pricks have been shorting the customers for years and NOW they step up the speed ?

Watch your bill. Once this is all over you’ll see a jump, when you call in they’ll say ‘you have the 60mbps upgrade’.

Uhhh...
"493 Mike
2 rotator cuff repairs, both upper biceps detached, 2 cervical fusions, replaced left knee joint, carpal tunnel repair, heart ablation, and a bad lower back. I ant't done yet!"

I wonder why you would list this for others to see. Seems pretty personal to share so openly.

I'm healthy.
To mention all of his ailments seems unusual to me.

Don't trust those cable companies. Always keep an eye on your bill. Friggan thieves

So, after they got you hooked and the crisis is over they'll say you can keep the new speed for a price, right?

Clever.

My internet speeds haven't changed.
I have Comcast-Xfinity, for my cable internet, and it's always been 90.
Just ran a speed "test" and nothings changed for me.
No increase in speed for me, same as always.

They must have a certain threshold, say, under 60 gets the auto bump.
