I’m looking to replace my chambered mufflers. They sound ok, but drone quite a bit at times at low rpm. About 1500-2k rpm during take off only. I want a short body muffler that won’t kill a loping cam sound and not drone under acceleration. I was thinking of this Dynomax. But, I’ve seen people comment that Dynomax’s drone quite a bit. Can anyone make a recommendation based on what I’m looking for ?https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/164133514518

I'm a big fan of Borla products. They're a little pricey but never wear out and sound awesome. I did the Dronemaster thing for a while but couldn't stand it. I run the ProXS in 3" and am able to drive down the freeway and carry on a conversation.

I agree with Brewerzer67 the Borla's are the best.
I have the Dynomax on my Challenger and the tone is awesome - people tell me the car sounds great. But they are a bit drony between 2000 and 2800 rpm - after or before that they are OK. Borla are well worth the extra money.

I had flowmasters. Both broke baffles inside and rattled. My local mom and pop exhaust shop talked me into these.

They charged me $30 a muffler, added a h pipe, and out the door for $200 cash. I actually like these cheap mufflers.

Check out Pypes.
Yeah, I see a lot of people like Borla. But, they are out of my price range. I don’t care about quality make because it’s only an occasional fair weather car. Give me more info on finding these Pypes ? I was also considering the AP muffler suggested above. But, I’m looking for a shorter body muffler.

Just go to the Pypes website. I put their header back exhaust on my car. Everybody compliments the sound.

No drone. Nice and mellow.
Do you have a bigger cam, Bill ? If so, does it drown out the loping sound at idle ? Thank you. Would you be kind enough to post a video in the next couple of days ?

I put flowmasters on the X. American Thunder. Thought they sounded great and also got a lot of compliments on them. No complaints here

As for my taste, I think this car has too much cam. Previous owner told me it was a mild cam. I would say these mufflers are slightly more mellow than a flowmaster in sound. No drone.
I wish I had seen your post earlier; I had the car out and could have done a video. Probably won't have the car out for a week, or two now.

Thank you, I get a lot of compliments on the sound too. I love the idle sound with chambers. The problem is the seldom drone under acceleration between 1500-2500 rpm. I’m not willing to tolerate it anymore. It’s not bad, but when it happens. It’s annoying as hell to me. It makes what must be a loose spring in my back seat rattle. I’ve been hunting that vibration down for over a year. It’s being caused by the drone of the mufflers. I also have a neighbor, that cries about everything under the sun. Figured, I’d try to shut him up too. The guy lives in a fantasy world in his mind. Swears my neighborhood is Beverly Hills and he is a Rockefeller or someone along those lines. That inherited (hahum, stole ) a lot of money away from his siblings. Total ******* idiot, ha ha !

Bummer, ha ha !

I'm a big fan of Dynomax Ultra Flo mufflers. No drone in my GTX, straight through design and they sound nice.

Thank you, I will look into them. If they don’t drone. I’m up to all suggestions.

It seems all the name-brand mufflers have all gone up in price lately. Looking thru my jegs catalog , all the good stuff seemed to be around ninety bucks each.
Just a quick question, do you have tailpipes on your car? If not, they should help with the drone. I have huge/giant flowmasters on mine, but no drone, tailpipes to the bumper. If you do have tailpipes, maybe a resonator in the tailpipe could fix it. I would check out Jones exhaust, they have stainless mufflers and resonators for a very decent price, at least they did the last time i looked. Summit sells them, dont know about jegs, neither has them in the paper catalog.
Ive,also used hooker aero chambers, and liked the sound, no drone, but i paid $50 each, they are now almost $90. They were, and still are, the cheapest 3 1/2 in/out i could find.

I've used allot of these. BUT depending on the car/engine/spec combo I had some with drone at 2200-2700 rpm.
The worst was with a bone stock 273.Got me why.No drone on my 472.

Anecdotal story for reference...

I had dronemaster 40’s on my 361 and they were purely awful. Swapped them for some dronemaster 50’s and it was better. Then put some resonators in the tailpipes and it was still better. Note that I’m really sensitive to this, drives my tinnitus nuts.

Interesting thing is that I then plucked the 361 and put in a 426. Much better, no drone at all. I can’t really tell you why that’s different, same cam, same manifolds but wow.

I have 3" pipes, headers, X-pipe, with flowmasters and it sounds great BUT the dreaded drone at cruising is annoying and a drop top adds to the noise. I see Borla suggestions and Pypes. I would like the sound under acceleration and quieter when cruising...though with my 3:55 gears I'm running pert near 3k rpm at 70mph. I might be asking for too much huh?
