Ignition system prefrence

I opted for the Rev-N-nator myself being a plug and play job, no mods anywhere and totally stock look except for the rev limiter/tach setup built into the box which is visible, but is true they are getting problems with inventory for whatever reason.

( Running Rev-N-Nator box with chromed Blaster II coil and MP ( Mallory ) dist )

Is true I also entered on the first release offer for these when they came out for the first time ( being the first generation... I know they got new generation with internal upgrades ), being on the waiting list. I think paid maybe $100 or so?

I think you are forgetting two other options on setup... Pertronix Ignitor ( I, II or III ) and RTR MSD dist. You only mentioned system with separated ign modules. I guess is a matter of prefference getting separated the dist from the ignition box module?

Mopar ECU's have become junk over the past few years and are now even discontinued by them which shows you their quality and plan overall. I run the Rev-n-Nator, but they are out of stock for quite some time. FBO ignition stuff is spot on but just doesn't look factory and was my only negative when I went Rev-n-Nator.

I am happy, so far, with my HEI conversion on my 65 poly 318.

I did look in to the MSD RTR distb but I have edelbrock RPM performer heads and read somewhere that they need to grind a portion of the head down to get it to fit. Anyone know if there is any truth to that? I’ll look into Petronix sytem.

thanks

Not that I’m a fan of non stock look system but actually the Pertronix Ignitor is more an option I talk more for those with stock points system, but also an option for any other setup.

being you have a 67 could be an option use the old stock points dist with the Ignitor system. Is not more than RTR system built to be instaled into the stock dist. Just need to bypass/modify the ballast.

Same with the Pertronix RTR Distributors

They will hit the Edelbrock Head
E Street and RPM

Juts in case, I meant Pertronix Ignition, I mean the module to be installed INTO the STOCK alt, not any RTR distributor from them.

I've had awesome luck with two Pertronix modules in both of my cars. Zero complaints.

I have great performance from my HEI conversion. Mopar performance electronic ignition from 1997. Got rid of orange box, took ballast apart and put 10ga wire inside and reinstalled. Used aluminum mount on bottom of distributor for heat sink for HEI module. A Blaster coil will work great. I went with an MSD performance HEI module.

Pertronix II did hit my 452 heads on the cast flashing

Running a firecore rtr distributor and the old analog MSD 6a boxes. I have no complaints...

I ran the same MP orange box on my cars since 2001 with an Accel super coil and it has never missed a beat pushing my car in the 10's. But I bought that box around 1998. I just got a new MSD digital box real cheap that fell into my lap so I installed it with the MSD blaster coil. No problems with the ign I was using but since I race my car sometimes and jet the secondaries for mph I figured the low rpm multi-spark MSD may keep my plugs even cleaner. And MSD is a good ign used by tons of racers and street cars. If you race a lot I would go with the MSD but any of the ignitions you listed should work fine for you. Ron

I have used the FBO box along with a Firecore distributor in 3 different cars now, and knock on wood haven't had any problems. I really like the FBO control and its rev limiter feature. On my last build, I was talked into using a MSD ready to run setup. I don't care for it and won't ever buy another one. The head does have to be clearanced, aluminum anyway, not sure if stock heads do. Also I think their bushing design is just plain stupid. Bushings can be changed with the unit in the car, but what a pain in the a$$. You are also limited on the sizes of bushings so you can't fine tune them perfectly. The Firecore distributor is so easy to make infinite adjustments to in comparison.

I replaced points with the Pertronix kit - I think It's the II - installed in the stock distributor and added their upgraded coil on my 67 383 several years ago and it works great. Engine starts faster and runs smoother than before and, other than an extra wire coming out of the distributor, looks stock. Easy to install and no box to mount.

I use the factory Prestolite dual point on my 426. However, I use it to trigger a hidden MSD 6A. Very reliable system while enjoying the benefits of the enhanced spark. You have to look very close to see that the system is not stock. All of the connections are made at the factory coil. Added benefit is, should the MSD box ever fail, it can all be restored at the coil and drive home on the stock system. The points last forever as they are not carrying any current. If you have access to any old articles or interviews with Tom Hoover, one of the fathers of the second gen Hemi, he always said an MSD ignition was one of the best mods to the engine.

I’m looking for an ignition system for my project and got turned on to this solution in Mopar Action magazine: https://www.ebay.com/itm/ForMOPAR-3...641931?hash=item34297215cb:g:8Z4AAOSw9CNe1-RK

The system is a quality repop of the distributor, plus an extended rpm range ECU. Looks like it’s Ehrenberg’s work. I’m buying it, but my engine is in the machine shop, so no feedback to give you at this time.

Food for thought.
