I've got new "Bullseye" center cap inserts on the way for my Magnum 500 wheels and was curious how to remove the old center cap insert? I was thinking about a chisel but open to suggestions if there is a better way. Also got the 3M adhesive 08061 on the way also.

If they're real Magnum 500's, you do realize the center caps are held in place from behind with capscrews
and a retainer plate, right?

go ahead primitive Pete use a big chisel.:moparsmiley:
I was thinking about a very small chisel and small hammer. I'm looking for ideas on getting the old ones out and open to suggestions, hopefully from someone who has already done this. There's no way to push them out from the back side as it's closed. Thanks. ---------- Mark.

I guess I could glue the new ones on top of the old ones but thought I should remove the old ones first to provide a good surface to glue down the new ones.

remove the wheels and center cab as said above then look at the inside i think there a small hole to push them off to replace. or i like the pick idea. less chance of damage but when you stab yourself it will hurt.

Moparedtn, thanks for the feedback. i'm not replacing the cap itself just the "O" looking bullseye insert that goes into the top of the cap.

If you go into eBay and type in "CHARGER GTX SUPERBEE B-BODY CUDA E-BODY MAGNUM WHEEL CENTER CAPS INSERTS" it will show you a picture of the insert.

Son of a gun! I looked at them before but didn't see the small hole you were talking about. Of course it could be the 50 years worth of use that had it hidden. Took a closer look and found it. Thanks for the tip. Love getting advice on how to do it easier and faster from the guys that have already been there. Thanks FBBO members.

I've got the retainer plate off but didn't see the small hole to push the old ones out the first time. See it now. Thanks. -------- Mark.

Moparedtn is correct. I had to do the same thing.

Well, there is no hole in the 1974 charger center caps. Please refer to the part no in the picture... :BangHead:

Mine don't have holes either.

Coincidentally, they are also from a 74.

I would love to see a Magnum 500 center cap that has a hole from back to front, never seen one. I have had new, used and repop Magnum 500 centers, never had a one that had a hole. Could someone post a picture of it ???

All that you need is a razor blade knife. They can be on the car so no need to remove unless you it's too cold you will want to do it in a warm area so they get good adhesion. Just use the point and pick at the corner as they are more like Foil than a "sticker"...

Heat gun to release adhesive?

I think I ended up heating mine up a bit with a hairdryer and getting a small pick tool underneath the adhesive foil. they come off pretty easily once you get them worked up. The main issue afterwards is getting the 50+ year old glue off. isopropyl alcohol helps with that
