1966 - 67 Charger Citron Gold Paint Nightmare

Hard to find a good paint shop these days. All of them are so trained to shoot modern colors and formulas in a " Shoot 'em and move them out" fashion. Restoration shops that have painters who are conversant with these paints are expensive, and rightfully so. It's an art form more than a simple job. I would say that you need to make the paint shop show you examples of the same sort of cars that they have done recently...same sots of paint too...

I would say FISHYPETE's 66 Barracuda is the closest shade and hue to the original color.

I agree, the untouched areas on my 66 Charger more closely matched FISHPETE"S Barracuda. Virtually every 67 car I've seen looks more gold and doesn't have that green hue.

Mine too. I wonder if I have a photo of inside the trunk lid.

The best I can come up with.

I think YY1 gave you the best advice in hindsight.
I paint them single stage like it came with and be done.
Your story in the OP is just one of the reasons why I've never painted a car base coat clear coat.
It might be appropriate for show and new cars from the factory.
Most people on the road don't even notice the difference.

That's a sharp Satellite. Is your's ZZ1 code?
Thanks, much appreciated. I don't know what code it is to be honest, it may well have been repainted at some point in a 67 hue. It's definitely not as green as some, but then even that Barracuda changes colors in the photos - it looks much greener in some than others.

Having done a few paint jobs (badly) I have discovered that on MY cars I look at them from 4 inches and they suck. Others look at them from 4 feet and they look great.
Perfect is the enemy of good.
Just my .02c.
Worth every penny you paid.

citron gold and poly gold are 2 different colors I have a poly gold 66 that was repainted in 2006 and just had hood and some body parts repainted and my body guy matched perfect

Update: Took the car in last week to have layers of paint removed and to re-paint. I bought a spoiler from Mike Patterson recently and I'll have that painted too. Here's what the car looked like before going into the shop. By the way, see the inside of the front fender where the turn signal goes --- and the lower radiator support? That's the original paint.

Update again --- car is painted. All that's left is wet sanding and polishing.

Got the car back from paint. Working on slowly putting it back together. The trunk gasket was a lot easier that I thought. I got all those potato chip bag clips at the dollar store for four bucks.

Yesterday -- worked on getting the Body Shop dust and overspray out of the grille, headlight buckets and off of the radiator support. That black paint on the rad. support is all original - I wonder what kind of paint that was. Got the new C shaped chrome pieces installed (at the ends of the front fenders), installed the lower stainless trim, the bumper and the forward front fender stiffeners.
