Just picked up my first Cordoba ever, it’s a 1977 and it’s it pretty good shape. Thinking about doing a a gen 3 hemi swap out of a newer Chrysler 300. I’m in California so I have to deal with emissions. Has anyone on here done a swap like this?

So far I've never heard of anyone doing that on here. I'd suggest joining Facebook Chrysler Cordoba, Dodge Mirada Group. There are some really nice Cordobas on there and someone may even done the hemi swap. I wanted to do the swap but gave up and built the 440 to have 500hp instead. But a Hemi Cordoba does sound nice!

I am interested also. Found a 78' Magnum locally that I would like to pick up and do a 3rd Gen swap.

Register it out of state... You'll never get the car up to California emissions... Getting the fuel tank and fuel system to pass evaporative testing alone will be a nightmare...

You want to do a Gen III swap in California, buy a car thats a few years older so it's exempt from testing....

All things considered, where you are, upgrading what you've got with CARB-approved items might be a better situation. The Gen III upgrade might be nice, but also consider that the car probably has somethiung like a 2.45 rear axle ratio already. Trying to get it close to the pwerformance of a more current Gen III hemi car will also require an 8-speed automatic to go behind it (with the normal low gear of about 4.80 compared to the normal 2.45 of the currentr TF), which will also mean you'll need a new rear axle ratio in order to use the top OD gears in the trans on the highway. Several dynamics there!

Spend your money, instead, on a non-ELB ignition system, possible TBI EFI, a better exhaust system, and making the car look as good as it can. Keep the luxury aspect intact and finesse the powertrain for best performance. There's already a lot of good parts on those cars, for the chassis orientations.

Nice looking car, by the way!

Just some thoughts,

Great looking car. Love the silver. cool that it matches your truck. What motor does it currently have in it ?

I agree with you wholeheartedly, this car is so clean that it would be a great candidate. It’s even got the original blue plates

You are right, I definitely am not trying to add a G3H for performance. It’s more of a cool factor and to have it run more efficiently.

yeah it really is a great looking car. I may have to let it go if it gives me any issues during smog. It’s got a 360. I also thought the color was super cool. I recently got rid of a PT Cruiser GT convertible that was also silver.

There have been some magazine articles on Gen 3 Magnums (effectively the same car, with different sheet metal). It didn't sound like an easy swap.

i tried finding them with negative results. So far it seems it’s very possible to do a California legal swap. The only part that seems to be a challenge is the fuel tank evap system. I believe someone mentioned that would be a nightmare

Before you start the process do yourself a favor and check with the BAR Referee....

Mopar Muscle:October 2018. Article: "the Recycler", page 68, Gen III into an '74 A body
Mopar Action: April 2019. Article: "That '70s Car", Page 54, Gen III into a '68 Road Runner

There are others, including the Magnum article, and thse should get you started. I don't have access to all of my magazines, as they have been put into storage. You may want to contact Mopar Action or Mopar Muscle magazines, and ask. The article described how the Magnum owner was originally looking for a big block, but ended up negotiating with a local high school kid and his dad, to trade the big block for the Gen III hemi, and how he had to work out all the wiring and computer stuff with a company specializing in that area.

I’ve done two successful swaps with the California state referee. Turbo drivetrain into an NA Rx7 and turbo drivetrain into NA pt cruiser. Both times I consulted with the ref and I was told the same thing. You need to swap in ALL emission components from the donor car otherwise you’ll fail. That means I gotta figure out the EVAP stuff on the tank. Other than that, everything else seems easy.

Thanks a bunch, I’ll try contacting them and try another search.

if you pick up an 09 or earlier engine do the valve seats or swap heads from 10+. save yourself some grief.
