Please help! Bad timing

Could be why the distributor had to be rotated. I would not worry about it. Piston and cam could care less.

I hope the timing chain is installed correctly.
I would agree to test to the compression stroke with a plug removed.
You may also have fouled plugs.
Be careful our you can potentially blow up your mufflers. Ask me how I know...
:cursin:
Ok Don, I'll bite. How do you know you can potentially blow up your mufflers.

I once had a distributor with a sticky vacuum advance plate.
Had it apart a couple times over a week or two trying to get it to work smoothly.
When I eventually gave up and installed another distributor I couldn't remember rotor position.
Guessed and installed the replacement, cranking it a few times (not a whole lot from what I recall now)
Decided to check the reluctor gap and left the key on.
Rotated the reluctor up to the pickup coil and BOOM!
Sounded like a bomb exploded stuff fell off my back shelf.
I had a neighbor run over to make sure I was OK.
Completely destroyed a good set of hemi mufflers.
They were difficult to remove due to being so twisted up and mangled.
I really liked those mufflers.

I had a similar thing happen but it was a badly worn timing set. Split the muffler at the seam.
