Stepson and I are nearing the end of this Project. 71 Charger was 318, drum brakes. Now has improved aftermarket Front End, Brembo Disc brakes all the way around, with a new Flowmaster Exhaust, and The 440 in question( came out of a 74 truck)carb that was on it is junk. Which Edelbrock should I go with want electric choke, 750 Cfm. Not trying to run at the strip or anything like that just a toy for fun. Thanks for input.

I have the 1406 on my 440 with a Edelbrock Dual Plane manifold. Iron heads, Big Headers, etc.. Seems to run really good.

Will do but that is still a way off still waiting on new grill and paint is going to be orange with black trim has bulge hood and put a spoiler on it

I'm a Holley guy, but I used a Carter aftermarket AFB, which became the Edelbrock, on my 360 tow vehicle. It performed GREAT. I forget if it was 650 or 750 CFM. Very smooth. Handled the wide variety of my Minnesota climate very well. The Edelbrock is the same carb. A 440 will like anything in the 650 to 750 CFM range, unless you have improved(pocket ported) the heads & upped the cam a bit. Then the 750 would be a base.

I agree with IronBuilt... I'm running an Eddy 1411 (750cfm) on my 340. It'll be just fine on your 440.

How about an Edelbrock 1407 750cfm. 440'
That's a manual choke, he said that he wanted electric.
Eddie does make a Electric attachment for it, maybe a 1408 is the carb #??? I have a 1407, personally OP? Your in TX, do you really need a choke? I don't have one and I don't have a problem that non-chocked cars can be like my /6. Just spitballin. Good Luck

Depending on where in Texas he is, it might get cold. I know that Amarillo winters are brutal.

I put a 750 cfm Edelbrock 1407 on the 440 in my 1967 R/T. I bought the electric choke kit and Mopar linkage adapter. It runs great. I jetted the secondaries one size richer than stock. The engine is stock with 906 heads and cast iron Magnum exhaust manifolds. I have the same carb on the 440 in my 1964 Polara. This engine has 452 heads and Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, stock cast iron exhaust manfolds. I smoothed all the Edelbrock lettering off intake and painted it engine colour, just to be sneaky. I haven't fired this one up yet. It has been sleeping for about 20 years.

I'm in Reno with no problems starting in cold weather. I guess it's all in the tune???

I’m a fan of the carter avs / afb, the new edelbrocks are very similar to the old ones. A few minor differences but very user friendly and reliable. A 750 would be fine, just pick up a kit for the linkage, thick carb gasket for under it and turning kit for it and your set...

I've got the 1411 on my 383 (with the Performer RPM manifold) and it runs just fine. Should work well on a 440.

I don't like any of the electric choke models. They are jetted lean but even after I fix that they never seem to run as good as the manual choke ones. I don't know why.
Full disclosure, I have a new in box 1407 for sale on this site at a discount.

770cfm Street Avenger Holley would be my choice
