I have a 71 satellite with a 440 and have heard that by adding a new intake manifold is a easy way to add some horsepower. Can someone tell me the best ones now days to accomplish this. Thanks all

Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold 440

If you want one that has Mopar written on it, they offer the same intake with that. It is a copy of the Edelbrock RPM with the MOPAR WEDGE script on it instead. Few bucks more, but I didn't want edelbrock written on my engine and wanted Mopar instead......I know I am **** so sue me! Hahaha!

I've got a 72 RR -440 and I had a performer rpm with a holley 3310 and needed a drop base air cleaner base to clear the hood. Other than that it worked very good for me.

I think I would do the same and go with the mopar one. It looks clean.

The RPM is a great manifold, but is almost 2" taller than the cast factory intake. A 1.25" drop air cleaner base will get it to work, unless you have an air grabber hood and ductwork. Then you are stuck with something close to stock height.

Yea I am running the drop base from Mancini Racing. Its on a 68 Charger and clears fine and I hear that's the worst of the hoods to clear are the Chargers 68-70.

I'm going to step on a turd here but the best single bolt on component horsepower wise are headers w/dual exhaust. Intakes have marginal HP gains regardless of dual plane/ single plane manifolds unless you make the engine breathe at the other end. Unsure as to your exhaust setup but the more you shove in the more you need to get it out. You can make the change to a aluminum manifold and will be underwhelmed if you were expecting to see a big HP gain. Sure some manifolds flow better than others but it has everything to do with your combination ( cam, heads, ignition, exhaust, etc). In reality your biggest gain will be a 25lb. weight savings. I'm sure there's going to be a debate about this shortly so..... This has been my experience.

Both matter for sure I agree there. If the car has a 2.5" standard exhaust even, I feel like ditching the stock restrictive intake manifold can give ya decent gains for sure. Headers are also a good investment(which I hate) as they make serious under hood heat and fit like **** (even TTI). I love my HP manifolds on my Runner but with the huge motor in the Charger, headers are a necessity. Most fun I had was my 318 duster that I redid with the 3 speed stick and that had dual 2" exhaust for noise and was all stock. Just such a fun car to drive and comfortable on long hauls. I feel like anything other than small mod's turns into a can of worms and makes the car more and more into a racecar type car and less enjoyable on the long hauls. Everyone has a diff tune though and to each his own.....just my .02$ which may not be worth **** haha!

I watch engine dyno comparisons on engine add ons and mods and a performance aluminum intake did around 15- 20 hp if I remember correctly. Headers, depending on the size did a bit better. If you are looking to gain hp, look at where you may be loosing hp also. There are some good YouTube videos that show actual dyno tests on bolt-on hp gains and videos on what changes/modifications can do to gain hp.

Here are a few to get you started...

Love that series. Gives alot of insight on how different things affect the engine in ways you wouldn't think it would.

GET THAT WRENCH OFF THE TOP OF THAT BATTERY!

I figured someone would comment sooner! Don't worry no welding between the poles of the battery occured! Just set it there to take the pic....all is good.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Nicks garage video, 40 minutes long, was just posted here a couple days ago and it compared stock hp manifolds to headers. 35 horsepower loss and 50!! Ft pounds of torque loss from headers to manifolds.

Thanks for all the info guys!!
I do have headers on it but I'm thinking of swapping those out also with some newer ones. I got this car when I was 19, a little over 20 years ago and that's when I did the work on it. Now that kids are getting older I have time to get back on it. I'm sure now days, everything is made better. That's why I am wondering about some better products now.
