'Pee-can' is how everyone pronounced it when I lived in KenTUHggy and I've said it like that ever since!
In my neck of the woods we use lots of peach and almond wood for smoking and BBQ'n, got lots of that! Sometimes peecan and grapewood too.

Wow, that was quite the stash. Looks to be nice and weathered.

Pecan is good burning wood too
so is Walnut

I use to get a shitload of almond tree rounds
my neighbor has an almond orchard down in Oakdale

up here
it's Live-oak, Black-oak (scrub-oak) & Fir, Cedar or Pine
not too many fruits or exotics up here

so many trees taken down from the Bark Beadle infestation
you can hardly give wood away, everyone has an abundance

Oh jeez. How could I forget the Oak!
I use oak in my pellet grill. The smell of it always takes me right back to childhood, when the old-timers would roast whole lambs or pig for hours and hours..

Wonder how that would be for wood turning?

White oak is pretty much all I use, hickory for pork. I'm a Northerner, we have an abundance. 440'

I love me some hickory smoked anything myself...
But I got to wondering (and some of you won't even know what I'm talking about here):
I wonder if pawpaw tree wood is any count for smokin'??

I use pecan, hickory, mesquite, maple cherry, and apple. I would like to find/try some orange.

Spalted Pecan is beautiful for wood turning....If anyone has any Pecan that is spalted I would be interested in buying some..that also goes for Apple, Pear, Red Cedar or any other wood that has any figuring in it.

They consider the fruit a delicacy around these parts. 'Course, they eat a lot of weird things, too. :)
