No pictures but the other day I decided to dig in to my car and see why it was using oil. It uses about a half qt every 100-200 miles or so

Did a compression ck the other day and all are well over 200 . Plugs show no real signs of oil deposits. At least not enough compared to the loss of oil rate Im experiencing . Planning to do a leak down test this weekend . And if all is ok there. want to pull valve covers and ck for maybe an valve stem seal issue. and/or planning to pull the carbs and see if I can tell if its sucked an intake gasket . Fingers crossed its one of them and not a piston ring issue.
If it is I will live with it for a while then open it up maybe next year and replace pistons to something more pump gas friendly . 11.5 is NOT btw

No, Im afraid its burning oil.

Got her all opened up. So far so good.
Repainted the covers while i had them off.
Valve gaskets supposed to be here tomorrow.

Should have it back together by the weekend

Well, did you find the cause of your oil usage? I have been chasing a similar issue since my engine was put together years ago. Even replaced all the valve seals (PC's) to to avail. Completing the 5000 mile maintenance now, so pulled the intake. No sucked in gasket, but does appear to have been drawing oil down 7 cylinders by the intake runners. I have not found anything definitive yet. Will have to see once it is re-assembled with fresh gaskets. I'll hopefully post photos when job is complete.

Im about 90% sure its a valve guide issue itself . Ive done a cylinder leak down test and cyl #2 is just a click under 20% loss, the other 7 of them are 15% or less . So my gut tells piston rings are not the problem. At least not enough I feel they are the primary issue
Ive done a couple tests to ck intake seal and also confident its not my problem

So for now,,,Ive decided to live with it as is,,,at least for the time being anyway.
Compression is a tad high for a street car ( approx 11.5 to 1 ) so Im thinking open it up maybe next year or year after and go back thru it with new pistons and have the heads done .
Maybe sooner but odds are will wait until after I retire

Speaking of timing. Im working on my A-body Duster. New 451 build. The B1/BS heads are tight closed chamber. Thus increased static compression to 12.5:1. Went with a E-85 metered Holley 1050 4150 carb. The problem? The E-85 insists of advanced timing. But the MSD distributor is a little bigger. And it just barely hits the bigger Brodex head when attempting to turn and dial up timing. Lol. A little grind would take care of it. But who likes to do that?
Guess they expect you to run a crank trigger. Grind away.

Working on getting the new engine wiring done. Putting all the other part's on like radiator and hoses and all. Then can fire the motor for the first time. Waiting on parts is the pit's.

Long story short shower in master has been ehhh since I bought the house .it was good enough till about 3 weeks ago when a few tiles finally let loose!
Said well guess I better hurry.
First time tileing. Had to pull sheet rock they liquid nailed all tiles on !
Pulled insulation replaced got concrete rock up leveled /fixed floor. Wasn't 100% with water barrier so I red guarded everything to be sure!
Layed floor tiles yes I know drain isn't centered I would of had a ton of cuts and more waist then I aloud wish I measured before I fixed floor I would of moved the dang pipe to center!
Even if I split the difference on the end peace it was still off !
Anyways got floor done a little bit ago .
Some time tomorrow I'll start on walls ! Walls should go very fast .let's hope it sticks !!!

Up date on the 4-speed conversion. Took it out last night for a zip around the block just Fing Cool is all I can say! Spent today working out the bugs still waiting for the Blank bezel where the buttons used to be. New wind lacing and carpet next week. Boy the pedal install was a little tough but Igot it done.

I truly believe one misses some of the muscle car experience with an automatic? Awesome decision!
