Fan Clutch Too Close to Radiator

It looks to be same as what I have installed from the photo.....

Jaguar fan clutch is the way to go. Hayden produces two versions now, get the HD one. Make sure to adjust the thermal clutch before installing, which will provide increased engagement at lower operating temperatures, very simple to do. The issue without running a clutch, is that a mechanical fan will literally will rob 30-HP at higher engine speeds, while there is minimal horsepower losses running a clutch fan. We do so much to increase the power of these old engines, it's literally a cam swap in reverse going from a clutch fan to straight mechanical.

Is the Hayden 2947 the Jag clutch you speak of? Totally agree with the HP robbing fixed fan....

Sometimes it simply can't be helped, short of major surgery to the radiator support - or of course,
changing out the radiator.

Just me but I would go back to the fixed fan and gain aprox a inch back.

There never was a "fixed fan"

Maybe milling off a lil on the fan clutch mounting surface? Anyone tried that?

How thin can you go?

Good question Mike..there's a lot of meat on that flange...seems like that would be the logical choice...I'm sure as hell ain't going back with a fixed fan or pull the rad support out with a come a long ..Jesus Christ man!

Hell I think a 1/4" would do it...I just wanna be able to replace the alt belt without screwing the rad fins...If I had a 1/4" more I bet it would come out.

I guess the extra core is causing all the problem...done prior to my ownership and it def helps with keeping temps down in summer along with the Milidon high flow 160 T stat.

So I knew some time ago this issue would come up...we always do. Here goes. 64 Sport Fury 426, correct Glen Ray 3 core radiator. With the adjustment maxed out I recently decided to replace my stretched & squealing alternator belt with a new one..I had forgot I installed the radiator lastly after installing what I thought/think is the correct? fan clutch. It was very tight with probably less than a half inch between it and radiator. So tight that now I cannot remove the alt belt. I have the original factory steel fan shroud which is immaterial. I cannot remove the fan clutch off of the studs without contacting the core. I will have to remove the radiator and figure out if in fact I have the correct fan clutch. Anyone with this setup ever have this issue?

This may sound like a dumb idea, but
I encountered the exact same problem.
I ended up using a pair of vice grips
to remove the studs from the water
pump. They got messed up, but are
cheap to replace. There should be
just enough thread length exposed
to where you can get a hold on them.

My God... Just pull the radiator and then deal with the clearance issues before you damage something trying to not do it correctly. Any rush ??

How do you adjust the clutch? I've put quite a few of these on and never heard of such a thing.

I wonder if different water pumps have different "nose" dimensions?
I guess not eh, it would mess with pulley alignments...
