The mopar hobby in particular seems obsessed with fender tag originality, rareness, and just generally obsessed with resale value. I want no part of that.
We only have one show here, bring anything from a ride on lawnmower to a Harley to a late model, everything welcome. No pressure, no nit picking. 100% people’s choice. Love it.

Mustang group is worse.
Mine is one of the two.

The car show at our event last year got taken over by a group of late model Challengers and Chargers. I walked around the show field and heard them talking about who they all were going to vote for because he hadn't won many trophies. Meanwhile a guy with a beautiful Barracuda convertible didn't even get looked at. This year will be different, the late models will be in a division by themselves.

And should be parked in a separate area just for them.

I would like to see the return of the late 70s, early 80's style cruises.

Word of mouth would say, "Everyone meets at the local [name your location] every [name your night] "

No trophies, no 50/50 tickets, no DJ, just a bunch of guys and their cars.

Yep, made some lifelong friends from just a bunch of guys with 55-57 chevies, hangin out at winchells.
Edit: Winchells was a local donut shop chain. I dont know how widespread they were. My bad to assume.....

That's the way it will be. We weren't complaining about the extra entry fees and bigger car count. And I have respect for the late model stuff. They are pretty passionate about their cars too. But.................................................................

Banks allowing people to finance cars with no money down, the owner hasn't worked for the car and has no respect for what they have. Then add social media and everyone wanting attention. I like the military and small towns, if you get a ticket or arrested, it in the newspaper/blotter report the next morning.

I put together a little show about two years ago. It was a 15$ donation for the local Legion and it went towards their college fund for kids. The bar we did it at made a little and it was fun, I did give out some plaques and T shirts. It was not huge but it made it to about 30-35 cars. It was a fun no judging show open to all. If you do it, it has to be fun and I didn’t want to even think about judging or trophies, I was shocked how many times I got asked do we get judged? It was low buck and all fun. Brought together a lot of gear heads from around the area, food, a little beer and just some cool steel. I did have one guy in a black 69 camaro that was a dick and wouldn’t donate and had to park front and center ... big guy with a gut and bald noggin that was the size of a Mack truck and down right a dB. It’s handful to make it all work but was kinda fun in the long run. But I do recall one thing the most, a young guy around 15 -16 had a dirt track car and asked to bring it. He was proud of it, GM powered but we made room for the truck and trailer and got him unloaded and he hung out for a few hours with us... I looked at it this way got to get them interested in the hobby to keep it going and let them share with their buddies etc.,etc.

No shows for me, my car is not a penis extension or a show car. The cruise in's are fun, every kind of car known to God and people just enjoying the hobby. Hang out awhile, check out the cars, grab something to eat and I'm out of there.

The problem with word of mouth get togethers, and yes I also have some life long friends that I met that way...is that even those same lifelong friends/car owners are difficult to get to agree to take their cars out on the same night, if they still have a car, and if they still take it out.

...let alone anyone else.

Last week car show a 2021 honda was in the top 50. But the only 68 RR didnt win anything. Crazy I didnt put my Bee in because I cant sit their for 5 hours.

I'm not a show guy, I prefer an event,
activity or competition using the cars,
not just sitting behind them BS-ing about them
driving the cars or just a casual get together
cruises, like the days of all the ol' main street cruises

ol' Car Craft show at Cal Expo cruise & race-night events
Oakland Roadster Show, when my cars were 1st built
sort of 'more of a perk' for the sponsor's exposure...
It really wasn't my deal
I was very young then too, lots of younger ladies to view

I get bored too easily 'just walking or sitting around'
when cars are the subject, I want to drive/use then
not talk so much

I respect what they have done, just not my deal
when I'd build my racecars we'd display them when 1st built
they'd get pretty chipped up by mid season

Around these parts. There is really no place to meet and chat. We had a real good place 5 or so years ago. Till a couple vendors started selling stuff on a donated premise. The owners of the property put a halt to that quick. Theres alot of nice folks here with sweet cars of all types. But it just takes a few to kill a good thing.

I am not a big fan of going to car shows. I much prefer cars and coffee type events....show up in the morning, hang out for an hour and then head home. In the Tampa area, DuPont held a great event for a lot of years. Unfortunately, they stopped when Covid hit, then sold their property and the event stopped. They have been getting restarted, but not on a regular monthly basis. There is another event at a local car dealership that is well attended and well behaved. As Covid restrictions started to relax around here, a local Detailing shop started a monthly meet. I went to a few, but could tell recently that the crowd started to change. It became more new mustangs, camaros, and challangers plus imports than the exotics and classics that attend the other meets. Now, towards the end of the show, spectators are lining the exit waiting for burnouts, donuts, and other foolery. This past Saturday, things seemed to get way out of hand. Looks like this is another meet that may get shut down. I work for the town that this is held in, it is a pretty small town and I can't jeopardize my career by being associated with this event. It's too bad....it could have grown into a great event, but the idiots are ruining it.

I think the worst thing about the Tampa Bay shows is a group that sells their car show management services to businesses. The last Premium Productions show that I went to was held on City property. They gave out double trophies to some people and then the wrong trophies to everyone else. They then asked for everyone to bring their trophies back up so they could start over. The person picking the cars had a thing for chrome and that was all she picked. Another of their shows included bikes and they put two blank parking spots in between each car and crammed motorcycles in between each others. Metal studs and wallet chains working their way through the bikes convinced us to leave right after we paid the entry fee. I steer clear of their shows now.

We attend selected regional shows only - not the least bit concerned about
trophies or idjits doing exit burnouts, just good folks and a lot of cool cars.
Without fail, every one of them involves helping a needy charity, too.

As for our local, regular haunt, the Cruise-Ins work just fine for me:

They shut down Main Street and the restaurants (and bars now!) remain open. No
"Fast n Furious" types allowed - the cars have to be 1980 or older models.
Very relaxed, very fellowship-ish and usually for a good cause.

I don't go to the famous Rod Runs down in Pigeon Forge (what a nightmare that's turned
out to be!) or other type thing. That's not fun for me - too many people, wall to wall,
too many idiots with LS-swapped whatevers showing their asses. Yawn.

We have a cruise in every Tuesday in the summer in the town park. All in fun, just a hot dog stand and the ice cream store offering specials. It gets up to 50-60 cars during the height of the summer. Another great cruise in is in the next town over, they shut down the Main Street for all the classics, the stores all drag stuff out on the sidewalk, and it’s on the mill pond. There’s a big playground there for kids, and an amphitheater where they have a band every week. Great times, no pressure, the town is hopping, and the bands are all great. That’s what I like to do, cruise to the shows, have something to do while you’re there, and leave when you want.

I cannot stand car snobs. I cannot stand rude people. I dislike people who feel they have to make negative comments about classic cars being shown.
Unfortunately there are many of these types at car shows
I make it a point to talk to people who have cars that aren't as popular at these shows
I like making them feel good and I enjoy complimenting their car.
Im not impressed easily, what did impress me was a guy and his son who had their 56 Chevy pickup that they restored on the side of their house with no garage.
They did the body work and had a Maaco job. The truck was really nice and my brother and I were raving and taking pictures of it....That dad and his son were really proud and for myself thats worth more than some ten dollar trophy
