Intake and carb for 383 engine with cam?

Whats the best intake and size carb for 383ci with a cam? Don't know what cam is installed. I have a 67 Coronet 4 speed with this engine plant in it.

Its very hard to recommend an intake that matches your cam without out knowing what cam it is or what it's power band looks like
However the Edelbrock RPM manifold is one of the best all around intakes
it will give you good power down low and up high in the power band

If I was choosing a carb I would look at a 750 with a vacuum secondary

since your planning on taking the intake off anyway , why not take it off and measure the lift on the cam , and while your at it run a compression test and see how much compression you have

I've had a Carter Competition series 625 cfm for years and never found the carb to be too small.
With the Mopar .455 272 cam didn't keep pulling hard past 5,500 rpm anyway.
Mid range it was terrific with a Weiand 8008 intake.

If you could find one at a reasonable price, an old school EDE TM6 Tarantula single plane would work well with the 4 spd. Or maybe one of the early '80's Weiand or Mopar single planes. A carb in the 650 - 750 CFM size in either the Holley or Carter style, whichever you feel most comfortable tuning.

I just removed an Edelbrock RPM and a Quik Fuel carb (770 CFM but will double check #) from 65 Satellite 383/4 speed car. Carb has vacuum secondaries, electric choke. Engine has a 509 cam (believed to be). Both intake and carbs are in excellent condition. Replaced with a dual quad set up (eye candy not necessarily improved performance). Can send photos if you wish. Will be taking the package to Carlisle I have a spot reserved R036.

Also have a Edelbrock Performer with a 750 Holley vacuum secondaries. Taking this to Carlisle as well.

Not sure if I can post a price for the above in as much as I'm taking them to Carlisle.

I'm using a 770CFM Holley street Avenger and love it. Cold starts are not great though, but once up to temp it's a ripper.

Same here, but on a 383, with a 1411 750 carb (only difference is electric choke). I don't know if it is the "best" or not, but I have no complaints.

this also depends on the gears, and I might get ripped for this, but I'd look at a small mechanical secondary (700 cfm maybe smaller), I'd also consider annular boosters. Could get spendy. If you know what cam you have and plan on revving high, then a little larger. For intake, I like the performer RPM.

PS I found the Holley avenger 670 needed to be rejetted to make it run richer.

It often makes me laugh a bit to hear someone say “the engine has a cam in it...”
They all have one....
The Edelbrock Performer RPM is a very good intake for mild to moderate builds. I have one on my 383 with a 280-474 cam and the 440 based 493 with the MP 528 solid. The Holley 750 VS is also a great choice.
