Patina'd RR1 Burgundy 1968 Charger ("Ribeye")

Awesome job! Are all of those your cars in the background?

You bought an old license plate off eBay and the DMV let you register it? Did the DMV have any info on the old plates previous owner?

the other chargers are mine although I’m selling one to buy a 70 RT.
Kansas doesn’t care about the previous plate’s owner. All Kansas cares about is that it’s the same year as the car. I just took the plate into the courthouse where they scanned it and tied It to my records.

Which one is going up for sale? I am very partial to 70 Charger R/T cars looking forward to seeing the new acquisition. My parents bought a 70 Charger R/T SE new when I was six years old.

I sold the patina R6 69 Charger last weekend. I still have two 68's and one 69. The 70 Im trying to land is a 70 RT (440/auto) that was originally red, but is now painted black. It's 440 is in pieces (i doubt it is original) and the car has been off the road for a couple years. The paint has some issues, but it is a pretty solid car. I really like the 70 grill and front bumper and I have been pining for one in a good color for quite a while. I had an F8 green one that I drove last summer but I just couldn't stick with the F8.

Rear window and trim are installed. I cleaned up the window but left the vintage radio station sticker.

The 70 R/T sounds like a decent car, hopefully you can buy it right. I hear you on the F8 green. I spent my childhood growing up in the backseat of an F8 green 70 Charger R/T SE with a green vynal top and a green interior. My parents bought it new. My white V code car had a green interior,I changed it to burnt orange.

The rear window and moldings look great. The old school radio station sticker looks period correct! The 71 Charger R/T I just bought, has all these old school stickers on the underside of the trunk lid,I want to leave them too.

Spent some time cleaning and polishing the engine bay. The passenger side is in much better condition then the driver's side so don't expect as good of results on the other side!!

That came out great! Looking forward to seeing the other side.

Finally pulled all the original front suspension parts out for refurb/replacement. So many rusty cotter pins...I'm also trying to figure out what I want to do for front brakes. This thing has drums on all four corners and that's not fun.

I left the front drum's and rear on the car. It stopped for 50 year's with them. It has some vibration in the front. So am taking it to the brake shop to have the new drum's turned. Here they are out of round which that make sense. Their are many disc swap's out their for sale. Some expensive and other's not so. Maybe call summit racing. They have been my go to store for many part's on my car. Grate car and wish you the best of luck with it. Paint look's good from here.

I’d go ‘68 spec b body discs in front, factory drums rear.

Thanks for the new photos...I still marvel at how clean and rust free your car is.

What a cool build! Nice find. Weird rust areas but 1/4s are solid, very strange.
I'm not a patina guy, actually can't stand it unless it's a custom paint job like swamp thing or JJ's malibu. I happen to like burgundy, it's better than F8 to me! I have a 90 coupe stang that I've had for nearly 20 years and it's burgundy, wife and I went on one of our first dates in it, so it's special to me. Paint cleaned up like yours did.
What engine did this come with factory? Can you post the fender tag? Neat option pkg on this as well.
Congrats on being cancer free. Keep up the good work.

Since my survivor 1969 Charger was totaled in December of 2018, I have been wanting another driver quality Charger to drive while my pro touring 1968 Charger is being built. I spent three months on the couch recovering from surgery so I spent a lot of time looking but I didn't get serious until about 6 months ago. I really wanted a B5 or Q5 Charger, but so does everyone else! We all know, most original paint cars seem to be green....IN January I found and bought a really solid R4 Charger out of Texas. It had a cheap repaint but was complete. Not two weeks after buying the R4 Charger, I came across this RR1 Charger just 30 miles from me. It had mostly original paint (with a few spot ins) and some greats options like black vinyl top, white interior, cruise control, rear defrost, power breaks, power steering, AC, 3 speed wiper, etc. It had great patina and the paint was chalky/oxidized but I knew my paint detail guy could do wonders with it. The grill is perfect!! It had been a Kansas car all its life. It spent inside for the last 5 years but was outside quite a while before that.

It spent one more night outside while I cleaned up and reorganized the shop.

I have the same car with red interior........family owned since new. Let me know if I can provide any details for your project.........you may have already finished it!

With 5 kids, work, school board, etc, I've not been making much progress on this charger. But I've also been trying to be patient as I've been waiting to make a deal with a previous owner for the complete numbers matching 383-4. I've known where the engine was for the last 3 years and the owner was willing to sell it. The engine is in a Satellite he owns and it hasn't run in over 20 years. We even came to an agreement on price three years ago, but I can't get him to take any action. I've offered to pull the engine for him...I've offered more money for it...He has turned down my offer to pull it and he just won't ever get around to doing it himself. After three years, I've come to the conclusion it won't happen any time soon and I'm tired of waiting. I had also completely rebuilt and powder coated all the front suspension. So the direction is changing for the better.

I'm going Gen 3 hemi, A518, Vintage Air, and RMS front/rear suspension.

Also, I noticed that there is not blackout treatment on the front of the radiator support...and the radiator support has not been repainted.

Originally, this car was RR1 Burgundy, black vinyl top, white interior, 383 4 barrel, cruise control, power drum brakes, rear defrost.

I'm also going with disc brakes and bigger wheels. Don't judge the wheels just yet. It will look a lot better at ride height, which will be lower. If I didn't mention it earlier, I had my paintless dent repair guy work out the hail dents and door dings.

I can see a "seasoned" paint for a car with an original engine but with the radical changes you have planned, it seems strange to me to go half-way.
