Pushrod length checker size?

Hey guy's I need to order a comp cams pushrod length checker to get the right pushrods for my 440 so I have the proper preload with my factory rockers. which size range pushrod length checker do you guy's get? Thanks

I have a adjustable pushrod for a 383 and another for a 440. Setup one valve, then remove it and measure.

I understand the procedure set for zero lash with adjustable pushrod measure add desired preload and find closest pushrod to that. It's just they don't sell them by engine type that I can find. you have to order the size range you need. They come in many different ranges. I'm just curious which one most people use.

Closing up my engine is waiting on proper pushrods so I gotta order the right tool. looks like its gonna take over a week to deliver that and then if I need to go with a different size than stock rod's I'll have to order those and wait yet again. Slow shipping is starting to get old lol. I'm waiting 5 to 6 weeks for springs from Espo's and also 5 to 6 weeks for my headers from TTI. Everything involved with mopars seems to take 3 times as much money and twice as much time LMAO.

For the 2 440's I've built, I checked the pushrod length with my tool, measured about 3 times and then ordered up Smith Bros Pushrods which are custom length and high quality. Do it right the 1st time.

10 seconds on Google got me this. So you want a checker that will adjust to that. As 1 Wild R/T recommended, 9 to 9.5 adjustment. Took longer to type this than find it. If you were ever in the Army, you were probably doing a lot of push-ups for not researching and just asking.

Did you change anything from stock ? I remember your post with all the bent rods. Do you have a single one that is not bent ? I used a 12" dial caliper the determine the length I needed.

Not my post with bent rod's. I rebuilt my engine and went with edelbrock e street heads and a comp cams .484ex .484int cam. Was told to just roll with factory rockers with such a mild cam. I'm just gonna measure to see if I need new push rod's. Thanks

If you are converting to a roller, it will need to be shorter. If I remeber correctly it was in the 8.250"-8.500" range but don't quote me on that.
Need a solid lifter or take a hydraulic and make it solid for accuracy.

on my 440, trickflow 270's with isky E-Z rollers using a CC adj unit, they measured out to 10.052 . bought a set of smith bros heavy wall 5/16 ball/cup P.rods..

Which ever brand you settle on, make sure it has knurling on it. They can be a bitch to turn when your fingers get oily.

I ended up ordering the Comp Cams 7704-1 8.80"-9.80" and it seems to work very well. On one head so far the zero lash runs between 9.213-9.224. The tool has threads on it that you are supposed to count for your measurement but I've been using a 12" Digital caliper to measure the tool after finding zero lash. My stock rods run around 9.295 so obviously I'll be needing longer pushrods. I've been thinking 9.500 comp magnum pushrods that is what I've come up with going with .30 preload. Comp recommends .20-.40 on this lifter and cam package I purchased and I figured right in the middle would be the sweet spot. I noticed my factory pushrods are solid with no oil passage but the ones I find for the 440 have the oil passage and I'm not sure if that matters. I've just got to torque the other head down and see what the measurements come out to if they are in the same range then just have to decide if .30 is the preload I want.

Jeeze good catch. It's 90 out today very humid and apparently my brain isn't functioning properly. I just reread it and you're right .020-.040. The worse part is I read it several times before doing the math. Putting the Decimal in the wrong spot will cause major issues LOL. Thank's
