So.. Was out driving and when I stopped for a red light I noticed that my idle was up real high. Shut off ignition and after a quick look I noticed that if I loosend the nut for the clamp holding the throttlecable so it slacked a bit everything went back to normal. Out driving again and everythings fine for an hour then suddenly.. Same thing again. Seems like the clamp loosened up a bit allowing the cable to travel. Put some locktite on the threads and tighten the clamp down real hard again and it seems to work now. Found a small spot where the plastic on the wire was gone but doesn´t look that bad. common problem? Just the clamp or do I need a new wire? 318 with a 2bbl original throttlecable.

If you get any indication it's not right, you could pull it loose again and see if it has fraying. Move the carb end watching for any binding. Should be smooth. Stuck throttles can be fun.

Yeah sometimes i´ts a good thing with low horsepower engines.. Everything looked allrigt with the engine of and the clamp newly tighten. Seems like the adjustment loosened up while driving

Check the clamp for any malformation/bending (possible from over-torquing it), disconnect the cable from the carb leaving the clamp on and move it back and forth to see if there’s any binding. Other thing is the cable should have a straight line to the carb from the clamp – meaning not cocked side to side or up or down.

UH, Are you clamping the black plastic cable shroud, or the steel near the end?? The clamp should be on the steel.

Clamp has been on the steelpart the whole time. The spot where the plasticcover had a small crack was at the back towards the firewall.
