Nice Rack!!! Luggage Rack that is...

Seeking the knowledge from all who know about luggage racks.

My particular car that I want to add a luggage rack to is 71 Charger SE.

Question #1 - Were luggage racks dealer-installed or could you order a car with one?

Question #2 - Are there cut outs in the underside inner panel of all trunk lids to accommodate mounting the luggage racks or was drilling required?

Question #3 - Were there two styles available from Mopar during the same period? Or was there one style from years xxxx to xxxx and a second style from years yyyy and yyyy? Or is the luggage rack below in picture C from possibly Chevy, Ford, AMC and someone added it to a Mopar?

A - From an ad on eBay; showing the box with the Mopar Part Number.
B - Looks like A.
C - Is this a Mopar luggage rack?

C is an original E body rack... Charger racks are pretty rare...

Why put a luggage rack if you need to drill holes, they look like an afterthought . If you plan to ever sell it could turn off buyer, takes away sporty imagine . MO. As always it's your car so you make the call.

Years ago, I helped my friend restore a 71 Road Runner with the factory luggage rack. He elected to not put it back on the car, as we replaced the trunk lid. (it had been broken into, and the area around the key lock was butchered.) Anyway, I remembered it has the black bullet tips like in photo B. He gave the rack to another buddy who was restoring a 70 Charger with a rack, and needed a few of the tips.

It's just a crappy A36 4-speed car. SE should have a luggage rack!

I think they look good on an SE. I have a mint extra trunk lid in storage. I figured I'd paint it and mount the luggage rack on it and store the original deck lid. When my wife sells the car, the new owner will have both.

I can't say with 100% certainty from the pictures but they are close... The flat tags at a angle is correct but that design was used on allot of other cars... The common rack that is wrong but somewhat close is the 70-73 Corvette rack... I got new tips for my rack from a Corvette rest house back before Mopar parts vendors were selling them...

Oh man. Luggage racks!!! I remember "back in the day," probably the fall of '69 my boss hands me a new car service work order, with "Install luggage rack,,,,WHAT??? drill holes in the deck lid of a new car???!! It went well though and I became the "luggage rack installer" and even installed some full size racks on Station wagons. The racks used well nuts to secure them,,,
