This is a pretty cool video showing you what is going on behind your cover and he explains why you do not need a ton of fluid……about to change the diff fluid in my car and happened across this.

I watched this awhile back. Good info. Proves the aftermarket dif. covers don't really help and sometimes they are worse than stock.
 
Yes it’s a great eye opener. Going along with this filling the gearbox up past the hole and quickly pluging it is of no advantage. Foam and leaks are the possible effect.
 
At the drags years ago the way to do it was just line up in the staging lanes and wait. So we noticed drips of oil on the ground. Traced to a chev with a hole poked in the anodized aluminum differential cover from ring gear teeth, and a puddle under it. Was a strange sight.

Cool vid. Also explains why Dana 60 cover has had little design change in decades. Certainly looks as if they practiced keeping flow distance consistent with relation to ring gear. Excellent example of not trying to fix something that's working?
