My engine detailing is getting closer to being completed…..just inquiring what brand to put back in it…I’m using stock exhaust manifolds…..I know my owners manual recommends Champion…..I’m running a Mallory Uni lite distributor…..this has been a remarkable unit….easy 35 years on my engine….all I’ve done is change cap, rotor and plug wires occasionally…..my engine is stock…..no modifications other than the distributor…..my brother years ago did port the heads….anyway I’ll appreciate any info you guys can give me…. Thanks, Steve

A favorite subject of many....which brand / type of spark plugs are best. If one were to start a poll by brand name.....probably NGK or A.C. or Champion or Autolite or E3 or Beru or ????
My personal favorite...Champion UJ-11G or HO-8A both of which are NON projected nose, platinum tip design but I do sometimes use AC R43S or Autolite AP85 or Mopar P34P or Champion J-11Y, in my RS23V0A****** GTX. I'm sure others will have their own preferences for their own vehicles....sort of like what beer is best or what wax is best or what oil is best or.......

I thank you all for your input…..I’ll most likely put Champions in….just thought I’d pick your minds….many thanks, Steve

Just remember...the Champions you buy today are NOT the Champions made in Toledo Ohio from 1969. You may have to tinker till you find the plug that likes your engines tune.

Since the Champion J-11Y's are extinct, I typically go on ebay and find a set.
The fairly mild 440 in Fred seems to like them just fine.

IF...you buy your Champion plugs on the internet....i've used eBay with success....I look under the category of VINTAGE, either as Champion or Mopar (made by Champion). Also look at vintage CRYCO, which is Chrysler of Canada (Mopar) made by Prestolite. Also consider VINTAGE AC, with the green stripe insulators as the AC ACNITER (resistor type). They work very well....R43S or R44S (3/8" reach) or R44XLS or R43XLS (3/4" reach).
I also scour flea markets.....I've found Champion UJ-11G (gold paladium alloy electrode) and H0-8A (platinium electrode made for Homelite Corp. for 2 cycle racing go kart engines burning a methanol-nitro methane castor oil fuel mix) for my RS23V0A****** GTX, both of which are platinium electrode non-projected tip designs and work very well. Most of the time the vendor has no clue of the value...ive purchased sealed boxes for $ 5 - $ 10. These plugs were made by Champion of Toledo Ohio, b4 Federal Mogul bought them out. I've also purchased 20 plus boxes of 8 NOS MOPAR P34P plugs on line for less than $10/box, from a gentleman in Texas.....you just have to look for the bargains. Then there is the NGK proponents...which are perfectly OK. you pay your money and take your choice.....I just prefer Champion. Just points to ponder...

Excellent point. NOS are still out there.

The thing I don't like about non factory plugs is the heat range the other companies choose for conversion. I got spanked with a rough/rich idle with a Autolite plug. Their conversion number was a step colder than the OEM Champ and it ran like crap. I ended up 2 ranges hotter to fix the issue. (lower compression after a rebuild)

Yep, I like using new Champions "of the period" also - and lately, the last few times, I was more successful
finding them in their Mopar wrappings, which is sort of cool I guess.
I am also a fan of the olden AC stuff as well.

Sure. They're all I use.
