Hydraulic rollers and regular 5-30 oil. Will last my lifetime w 5k changes and 2,500 oil filter change in between.

Hmm....any better than valvoline VR-1?

VR1 is good, Penn Grade, redline, Royal purple

anything ready to go without adding to it.

Congrats on the roller cam. Yes they can use off the shelf oil for new cars, so it doesn’t apply here.

I guess I missed the part in the Title or 1st post about flat tappet lifters only.

Been running VR-1 in my cars for years, until I can't get it ok keep using it!

I use vr1 conventional 10w30 and wix filter with solid lifters. It's great if you change often, but can't keep it in there too long because no detergent. The driven hp2 conventional is a good alternative with extended drain interval because of the additive package, they claim 8000 miles but I would do 3000 max or 1 year.

See that's info we should know! I do my VR-1 changes once a year on both cars...are you saying that's not good?

I use some dino Driven oil but Rotella 15W-40 diesel oil with all the additives you need for flat tappet cams is a lot cheaper and the 15W-40 weight seems to be just about ideal for my needs most of the time.

Should be fine depending on how much you drive. I change vr1 based on color, when it turns brown I change it. Usually one or two months, warm up the engine drain and fill and the oil is back to being as clear as water on the dipstick. Carbs and cold starts do a number on this oil with all the gas that gets into the crankcase and few additives other than zddp. Vr1 is more for racing (drain after a race), not for short trips and street driving. If you drive a lot then let it sit in used vr1 all winter, I wouldn't do that. The driven oil would be more suited for storage in general with it's detergents, TBN, etc. But if you change the vr1 a lot I wouldn't worry.

Good to know. I drive pretty much year round, oil changes every spring...just put 20qts of the hp2 10/30 in my cart.....

I run Mobile 1 10W-40 in my ‘68 Satellite 383. 120k miles on it, and never been apart other than a water pump.
