AFTER 40 YEARS OWNERSHIP I'VE STARTED THE RESTORATION OF MY 68 ROADRUNNER.
IN MY EFFORTS OF DOING STUFF RIGHT, I'M DOING THE NUMBERS MATCHING THING.
MY LATEST HANG UP IS THE "MISSING FENDER TAG". DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND MY CONTROL, THE BUILD SHEET AND FENDER TAG ARE LONG GONE. I'VE RECREATED THE TAG, ALL BUT THE LAST 6 DIGITS. THEY ARE OF COURSE THE SEQUENTIAL BUILD NUMBERS. I KNOW THE DATES OF THE MOTOR AND EVERYTHING ELSE, WHEN IT WAS ORIGINALLY PURSCHASED AND WHERE, BUT RATHER THAN FORGING A NUMBER...HOW DO I FIGURE THEM OUT??

IT MIGHT BE HARD TO FIND SOMEONE TO FORGE A FAKE FENDERTAG FOR YOU BUT I FEEL YOUR PAIN I HAVE A COUPLE HEMI CARS THAT HAVING PROBLEMS DOCUMENTING

Isn't it on the VIN?
No, Dadsbee is correct. In 68 the rad support and trunk lip numbers should match the last 6 digits on the tag. The last 6 digits in the vin won't be on the tag.

ON 68'S ...no. that'd be way to easy.
actually in my research just yesterday, on 68's I learned that the SO number is stamped on the motor and transmission both. which leaves me with the build date only.
Thank you for your input.

Did you not read post #2, well I see you did you turned off the caps lock! LOL

SO # is stamped on the radiator support and trunk lip... why I said to find them. It is NOT on the engine and trans, that's the VIN.

No, on '68's the last 8 digits of the vin should be on the back of the engine and front of the trans, both on top, if it was stamped.

Find you body stampings... and turn off your caps lock .
thanks.I'm gonna look this morning.
any ideas on the build date? I've heard all the estimates from motor casting to assembly date to sales date etc...

seems like the 68's were kind of a transition point. I know that theres no serial number stamped on the motor at all, and I know that the motor is original. there is no SO on the radiator support at all. there are however numbers stamped in the trunk lip, I'm heading out now to confirm those now. thanks again FOR your input.

That's all it will ever be is an estimate without additional supporting docs as stated in #13, but I can tell you that my engine had an assembly date of 4/17 and the SPD was 4/23, roughly a week later.

Do you have a coolant inspection sticker on the rad support? It may be under that.

The SPD on my '69 Bee is Feb 25th, yet my engine was built on the '26th and my drivers exhaust manifold cast on the '27th!

The MOPAR guru, Golan Gilua (Not sure of the spelling) was the guy to go to if you need information, certified paperwork, VIN and fender tag reconstruction. He was recognized as the expert. I am sure he is still around.

It will be stamped on top of the rough casting of the block and trans, directly behind the intake manifold. It will be within a 90* range from top center. It is NOT on a machined pad and is difficult to see since it is stamped on the rough cast iron and aluminum.
