Watch this guy doing 259mph on the autobahn

I've heard the veyron can wear the tires out in about 300miles if pushed hard!

I think this was relatively safe, and I will bet ,early on a dry Sunday morning. It could only happen in Germany, where drivers have the discipline to remain in the right lane unless passing. We American drivers have no such similar discipline. I've been a passenger on the autobahn near Munich in rush hour, my friend Hans was going only 200 KPH... Because the Audi A8 diesel wouldn't go any faster! Even at this speed he remained in the right lane unless passing someone else. Frequently we were passed trucks going 100-150 KPH slower, with perfect safety owing to the predictability of the German drivers. My 63 sport fury has no mirror on the right side, because in that in those days it was illegal to pass on the right.

They remain in the right lane over here too (which is the wrong lane) lol.

My Moparmate who is a very good drag racer is terrible on the Freeway.
Just sits in the middle lane come what may.

What that does is makes the faster vehicles have to go into the FAST lane to get past him!
That's when the Veyron hits you at 200mph+ as you are only doing 75...:mob:

To think some folks have driven at double the speed limit over here and that is still 100mph slower than this LOONEY...:steering:

I was always into driving FAST, whenever the roads permitted.
But our Motoring Club sat us all down to watch the 1955 lemans tragedy.
Not sure what the thinking was but it sure had an effect on me...:thankyou:

So, more details from the driver himself (If you watch the video in youtube you can see his comments, which I have inserted here):

Answers to some of the most popular comments. (by Radim's video team) For those that say it was irresponsible and dangerous: 4:50am on Sunday 10 cars per 10km so 1 car per 1 km Good visibility is about 3-4km straight ahead so there is enough time to react. The Chiron can brake from 400 to 0 in 9 sec. within 490m. All cars are in the far right lane. There was an earlier drive through the section to make sure there is nothing on the road. There is a fence along the whole stretch of the highway, so no animals can interfere. 3 people were spotting on 3 bridges for maximum safety. If you still think it’s irresponsible and dangerous, well, we respect your personal opinion. What did the guy in the Porsche feel like when he was overtaken at 417? Here is his testimony, as he was another spotter to make sure everything was safe: As I drove the yellow Porsche 911 Turbo S at over 200 km / h, I absolutely didn't understand how the car could overtake me so fast. The moment the Bugatti passed me, was absolutely stunning. It was like a fighter jet flew by. The speed and roar of the engine cannot be forgotten. Absolutely amazing experience. CR Why did you have a racing suit? When we purchased the Veyron and had a chance to test it on the VW track, it was provided for us and we were told that anytime we go over 400, we should wear it, so I did so. Also it is very comfortable to drive in.

Is that "reasonable"?

I would be "in", that's for sure.

I'd like to do a top speed run. I really want to drive 200 mph and not just at terminal velocity on a drag strip. I wrote about it in this forum here:

https://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/threads/top-speed-run.224862/#post-911973855

I've done a bit more research since then. I figure Bonneville is out because the salt will rot your car. The various "miles" (Texas Mile, Arkansas Mile) don't have enough road for a car like mine. There are also limitations (and for good reasons) that over 199 mph has to have a full cage etc. The Silver State Car Classic has even more onerous safety rules (again, for good reason).

But if you are up for a calculated risk it seems there are two viable options:

1. An illegal run on public road. Lots of risk here. With enough spotters it could probably work, but you'd still have the wildlife to deal with.
2. The Autobahn (cue Krartwerk "Autobahn" here). I checked into shipping my car to Europe. It is fairly viable though it will be a pain in the *** because of having to post cash to make sure the car leaves Europe (otherwise they want duties and taxes). The killer here was that I could find no reasonable way to get insurance. So here is my solution: I am going to rent a car with an instructor.

For a mere 999 Euros you can rent a Lamborghini Huracan. That'll do around 200 mph. If I feel particularly flush I can rent a Lamborghini Aventador for 1999 Euros which will top out around 217 mph. Or if I am truly feeling like having the once in a lifetime go at it, the Bugatti Veyron for 14,999 Euros.

Here's the chart:

I figured it was going to cost at least $5,000 to transport my car to Europe with all the bullshit. For that sum I could have a go in the Porsche 911, the Audi R8, the Ferrari 488 GTB AND the Aventador! What is not to like about that?

A quick statistic from the Pre-War GP cars either Auto Union or Mercedes: You could pass one at 100 MPH just as they were pulling away from a standing start and they would catch and pass you in a half a mile!

You don't need an instructor. In the right car it's pretty easy to do. (I was doing 175mph in a challenger srt 392)
Just make sure to do it early in the morning or very late at night so there is little traffic. You might want to do it in the night from saturday to sunday or sunday morning.
They have very good autobahns in frankfurt. Straight and many lanes. Under these conditions it should be safe and predictable.

Edit:

80min driving time for 1k and with an annoying instructor?
You might be able to find 24h for that price (probably not a lambo, though) at a different vendor but then you're not german that could might be a problem.

Unfortunately i don't have a 200mph car right now.

Not easy to exercise restraint sometimes when conditions are right.

I guess they don't have deer in that part of the country?

The quality of that video almost looks computer animated. Had to look twice and it's real
Deer. Could you even imagine?? I bet a that speed, squirrel would send you for your last ride!

If only there was a dedicated facility designed for guys (and ladies) to wring out the
vehicle of their choice in Germany....oh wait, there is!
On my bucket list (under the "ain't gonna happen, but it'd be AWESOME!" category):
Nurburgring.svg.png

By the way, there isn't any Bugatti on the production car "fastest lap" lists on the 'Ring - they're heavy cars,
as you might imagine.
I watch a lot of 'Ring videos, almost compulsively. Nothing I've ever witnessed comes close to
road racing (I had my turn at it 30+ years ago, mostly at Summit Point, WV) so the ultimate of
that for any street-production car driven by an average shlub like me has GOT to be the 'Ring.
I'd about kill for the chance to try and get around the "Green Hell" in one piece, brakes smoking,
engine starving for fluids and me in a cold sweat from the exertion....
I get small tastes of that now when I'm feeling froggy, out here in the backroads, but it's not
the same.

Don't get me wrong - I've done my share of drag racing and I've wrung out cars on deserted
freeways too (which with the wisdom of age looks DAMN foolish now, like the video linked in the
OP), but hustling a street legal car anyone can buy (if they can afford it) around a track hard as
it'll take it is about the ultimate, least to me.
Cars at their most base elements do three things, after all - go, stop and turn.
You get to do those things best, safest, most responsibly, on a track.

At 417kph, I would have trouble with my RING too!

Maxi pants and a tight belt might work lol...

You never know when you might come across a PRESS stand...

Speed kills...

I feel sorry for the folks who have to clear up the mess and tell the wives and families!

Why was your husband, partner, numpty driving a 100mph in a 30 limit etc?

Or 250mph just because he could???:wtf::screwy::fool:

l met a guy once who drove 25 miles down the freeway in the fast lane at 100+ stoned, with his lights OFF at night...

Not that unusual till you find out he was on the wrong side on the road, driving at the oncoming traffic...:wtf:

“Why did you do it you crazy dude”

“I was trying to kill myself”

What a muppet...:fool::fool::fool::screwy::screwy::screwy:

And now they say the Czech driver could face prison time! WTF
