My 1972 Charger with a 440 is no longer stock. I am running an Edelbrock carb and intake manifold.

It retains the 4 port fuel tank, vapor separator and charcoal canister. The carb does not have a port for the charcoal canister.

Can the evaporative control system still function safely and effectively without a carb port?

No.

Just run a vented gas cap. Ron

A ’72 four nipple charcoal canister? Yes, there is no reason you can’t run that system with any carb. Does not require dedicated carb purge ports for the ‘72 system. The main purge line is tee’d into the PCV line. The vacuum signal for the two-stage purge control valve is tee’d into the vacuum advance line. If the aftermarket carb does not have an enclosed bowl vent valve nipple, pug off the “Bowl” nipple on the canister. An intact, fully functional evaporative control system, plumbed correctly, will not adversely effect performance.

You could get an Edelbrock 1400. It has the carb port on it and could connect to the carb bowl port on the canister. Come to think of it, the Holley 0-80451 has the carb port on it as well (ask me how I know). :)

As a matter of fact a carburetor service in FL set me up nicely. They changed the air horn and made a few other adjustments to my Edelbrock 750.
